Mercian Posted November 29, 2021 I really like the look of the Excellence A2! And I understand that they are really well-made, and that even the steel nibs are a joy to use. I was thinking of buying the 'Evergreen' in CT, and paying more to get the two-tone gold nib. But your pen also looks really good. It's hard to pick one! Link to comment

But your pen also looks really good. It's hard to pick one! Thanks! The Evergreen is a really good color! I've been contemplating getting an older Excellence A or B for my collection in Evergreen, if I can find a nice one second-hand. Or I may break my 'one per model' rule and get another A2 anyway! And Diplomats are, IMO at least, very well made and their nibs always top-notch. Smooth with just the tiniest hint of feedback. They are big nibs and quite stiff, though, as is the trend these days, I suppose. Their steel nibs are really very, very good and a lot of people say that there is not a whole lot of reason to pay the significantly higher price tag to add a gold nib. I can't say that I disagree, to be honest. This particular one (bought last year) is slightly softer as you might expect from gold. Certainly softer than the 18k nail on my Parker Sonnet from the 90s. The one I just got (bought on FPD) on a LE Aero Volute seems to be less soft, but I haven't compared them side-by-side yet.
