The WYSIWYG editor will automatically attempt to make sense of any URL you supply while composing a post. In the case of images, it will attempt to retrieve the resource (hosted on FPN's server or externally), and insert it inline where the cursor is; just give it a moment.

The ‘Insert image from URL’ dialog box would normally reject URLs that don't identify as images; the URL I used in this illustration wouldn't work, for example. However, pasting the URL directly into the editor apparently gets around that limitation.

 

(That dusky pink square icon is the actual image, not a placeholder for what should be an image but which cannot be displayed.)
