Copperheads and cottonmouths have very angular heads so they always look somewhat threatening.  I have had a lot of experience with cottonmouths and they are almost always mild mannered, not aggressive.  A friend up in Georgia says you really have to work at it to make them strike and we are both kind of lazy.  This snake was two feet long and my hand was about that far away when I took this picture, outside the snake's strike range.  It didn't care.
