A Smug Dill

Just to give a friend some assurance that (JoWo) #5 is what Opus 88 calls size #10, for its nib units that are compatible with the Picnic and Koloro models, in case retailers confusingly call the Opus 88-branded nib units “#5” in error.

Nice looking pen....

So, this pen has what is typically called a #5 size nib, but Opus calls it a #10, correct?

Thanks,

Mark

@ArchiMark As far as I'm aware, that is the case; and I'm specifically talking about the nib units, with threaded plastic collar and all, and not just the piece of metal that deposits the ink on paper.

I don't, however, have any pen model that purports to have/take a screw-in (generic, or branded) JoWo #5 nib unit to test, and I don't favour pens and/or brands that make a selling point out of employing ‘standard’, interchangeable components with other brands that don't make their nibs, etc. in-house.

An Opus 88 #12 nib unit is 100% compatible with pen models, such as the Fine Writing International Planets series and the Edison Collier, that take screw-in JoWo #6 nib units, and their nibs fit the Opus 88 Shell and Demonstrator pens; I have confirmed that with pens I own.

I tried it just now. A Schmidt #5 nib unit will not fit inside the gripping section of this pen; the housing is too long, so its rim will sit a noticeable distance from the front end of the section, even though it can still sorta write.

Whereas the nib unit from a Faber-Castell Ambition (or Essentio, Loom, etc. or even the GvFC Tamitio) will fit, and will write in spite of not having a protruding 'nipple' on its back-end, although getting the ink to start flowing through in the first place takes some time because of it.
