  2. I hope the organiser of this Group Buy will not mind me posting this. I went strait to the horses mouth to try and get some information about the new Ambitious solid gold nibs and contacted Ambitious Pens though their Facebook page. They were able to provide the following image of what they report to be their new solid gold 40mm nibs: As can be seen, the solid gold versions of their nibs appear to be visually identical in terms of stamping to their plated steel counterparts. To be honest, I was rather hoping this would be the case, as I am

Hello from Texas! (…and a question)

I agree! I love being connected to the past, always have. I have a beautiful oak bedroom set that’s been in my family for over a hundred years. My people have been conceived, lived, and died in this bed. Writing with a fountain pen has become such a source of joy to me that I want to incorporate it with love of family and love old things. The only old pen I have is a Sheaffer Targa given to me by an old man I’ve recently gotten to know. Interestingly, it’s the best writer I have. Fountain pens seem to be capable of putting the lie to what C.S.Lewis called “chronological snobbery”. 🤣

Rest In Peace Tomoe River :’(

That’s unfortunate about Cosmo Air Light. I like that about shading and sheening, but what if I want to use a broad nib? I hate that walking through mud thing, if I wanted that I might as well use a stupid Bic ballpoint!

Same for me. I used to love Apica, but once I tried TR I never used it again.

I have had Diamine Chocolate Brown, in a really broad, wet pen, have a sort of green halo appear. But I cannot agree about Toffee Brown being a warm color, to me it looks like a very cool brown, with a purple undertone.
  9. My grail pen right now is whatever pen I buy myself when I retire (in a year or two or....three). I don't have any wish list cuz I don't roll that way, but I will be thoughtful then and get myself something nice after 40 years of teaching high school. It probably won't be very expensive, but maybe I will finally go to a pen show in a city and just browse for three hours, try out 30 pens, and pick the one I want. Yeah, that's a plan.
  10. I should have included my editing process because yes, that’s an essential part of writing and fountain pens are involved there, too. I start composing with double broads, stubs or italics almost always with blue black ink. After typing a laTeX draft, i print out a paper copy and go back to fountain pens for more editing. I usually use xf nibs and pink ink for editing.

ADVICE NEEDED -STUCK ON TWO PENS-

@ZacharyParker I never even knew Tiffany sold fountain pens. That one on the link you shared looks amazing. I look forward to seeing it one day in a Tiffany store.

    Some new Mohi arrivals…

I actually asked them for you. They prefer only WhatsApp. Sometimes we have to go their way… Yes. The ink window at the tail is an unique touch. The LE is well made. I think I simply got a bad nib on it. It uses a proprietary nib unit. The nib was pretty scratchy. And good replacements from Bock or JoWo did not fit well into the housing when I tried. Finally a KW nib fit but I am not too happy. It’s a nicely machined pen and has a thread to post cap.

Quick question about edges on a Lamy 2000 FP

If you know it’s there, the join between barrel and section is noticeable. You will certainly be aware of it after taking a Lamy 2000 apart because you’re unlikely to get it just right the first time. I would argue that it’s better for the join to be noticeable because cranking the barrel down is what breaks these pens.

Hello from Texas! (…and a question)

Welcome to FPN! I looked at the photo but could not determine much...other than one on the left appears to be a a fountain pen typical of the period (Duh!?!?). Having made such a profoundly astute observation, I will leave the identification to someone who hopefully can recognize something with the clips of two writing instruments that might suggest a brand name. What is cool about owning a vintage pen is knowing that it comes from a specific period of time. Your photo drives that realization home for me. I have a couple of early Sheaffer "flat tops" that are from or slightly before the pe

Not sure if this has been suggested already but would a setting for localized regions or chapters in FPN be helpful? I don't know if there is a way to find local FPN members who would be nearby. I don't know if we want to be discoverable but a setting to know how many members are in 25, 50, or a 100 miles of each other might be helpful. We can create a regions specific network like Craigslist where people could use that to connect with nearby members, conduct in person sales, arrange FPN meetups

Hi again all, I forgot to tell y'all that I made the post about Sweden ink PIF. Most have probably found it long ago, but here's a link, anyway:

I read your blog post and all the replies with much interest. I'm a FP user in Australia. Been part of this forum for years but rarely post. I did come across your ink sharing thread and considered participation. For me it's not lack of interest but lack of time to play around with FP and inks. I'd feel bad to put my hand up for the box and just have it sit until gosh knows when...   I also think that the FP community in Australia is smaller, and I wonder how many in the community are

Even so, you'd end up with a fragmented list, and it becomes an O(N²) process for each prospective requestor to check what is available: effectively recreate the list of currently active servers (without any reliable up-to-date info upfront about the inks and number of samples on offer in the thread) from the sequential list of posts, which may be spread over two or even more pages, and then query each server independently to check what is currently on offer.   It comes down to not hav

If one wanted to do this, one could just use the "About Me" field which appears to be unlimited in size.  And if a bunch of people wanted to cooperate, the Member Title field (or signature) could be used to this end - "Ink Giver" (or some such) could be used by those with inks to give...  No software edits required.
