Hi all, 


This is a tray of nice pre-war Japanese fountain pens. From left to right:


1.             1930s Unknown eyedropper with ink shut-off valve.  The pen is made of ebonite and has a smooth aluminum overlay, and a gold plated fine nib with some good flex.  Overall condition is very good, no dents or scratches, some plating loss on the nib.  It will need new seals. It measures 13.5cm capped. $150


2.             1930s Unknown ringtop eyedropper with in shut-off valve.  It’s made from ebonite and has a machine turned metal overlay both on cap and barrel.  The blind cap is marked : TRADE EXTRA MARK, HIGH CLASS FOUNTAIN PEN, MADE BY W.K.E.D (?).  It is a quality piece with a 14K gold fine flex nib.  The metal body shows signs of tarnish, but there are no dents.  It will need new seals. It measures 12cm capped. $150


3.             1930s Matsuzakaya lever filler made from ebonite and coated with urushi. This is a rare pen made by Pilot for the famous and oldest department store in the world, established in 1611.  The pen has special rose gold plated metal trims and also a beautiful XF 14K rose gold nib.  It’s restored with a new sac and ready to use and in very good condition.  It’s a historical and rare pen, measuring 12.5cm capped.  $325


4.             1930s Pilot balance shape, eyedropper with ink shut-off valve.  Classic Pilot piece, made from ebonite and coated with urushi. It has a fantastic size 2 Fine 14K gold nib with good flex.  Also the clip is coated with black urushi. It’s in excellent overall condition and the name “MASAKO” is engraved professionally on barrel. It will need new seals, and it measures 13cm capped.  $325


5.             1920s Marukins eyedropper with ink shut-off valve in mottled red and black hard rubber. A rare flat top quality piece made by this custom pen maker.  Marukins 14K gold Fine nib with some line variation. Overall excellent condition, will need the seals replaced. Measures 13cm capped. $325


6.             1930s Unknown flat top eyedropper with ink shut-off valve.  It’s done in the style of Pilot/Namiki pens with the maki-e cap bands. This one has also the clip covered with black urushi and the maki-e work on the cap band continues on the clip.  The theme is a delicate grapevine motif.  The work on the cap band is in excellent condition. The clip 3 small chip of the black urushi, but no damage to the maki-e.  The blind cap has some scratches. It as a 14k gold Fine flex size 2 nib, and will need the seals to be replaced. A very nice overall stylish pen, measuring 12cm capped. $350


7.             1930s Unknown balance type eyedropper with ink shut-off valve. This is ebonite with black urushi, and hira maki-e work depicting a playful grapevine theme. There is some graceful ageing to the urushi and the hira maki-e with is very typical of these types of pens. It has a 14K size 3 Fine nib, and will need new seals. The cap band is 14K solid gold and shows a little bit of damage. Very good overall condition. It measures 13cm capped. $350


8.             1930s Unknown balance type eyedropper with ink shut-off valve. It is made from ebonite and coated in vermillion urushi which has aged beautifully.  It has an unusual and very elegant art deco cap band which adds a lovely touch to its overall appeal. It’s in excellent condition without any scratches. It has a 14K warranted gold Fine nib and will need its seals replaced. It measures 13cm capped. $350


9.             1930s Yamada eyedropper with ink shut-off valve, made from ebonite and coated in urushi. Flat top design,  engraved : YAMADA FOUNTAIN PEN WARRANTED. 14K gold Fine nib.  Overall used condition with some color fading and some tarnish on the clip. It will need new seals. $150


10.         1920s THE FORD eyedropper with ink shut-off valve. One of the earliest brands in Japan very well covered in the FPOJ book pages 84-86.  This is an oversize Parker style pen made from ebonite and nickel plated clip and cap band. It has a large Warranted 14K  gold medium/fine nib with flex.  The imprint is crisp, and overall condition good, except plating wear on the clip and band and some fading of color on the ebonite. It’s a large pen measuring 15cm capped and will need its seals replaced. $225


11.         1920s BCHR “GENERAL” FOUNTAIN PEN G.E.&CO. It’s an eyedropper with ink shut-off valve. Excellent overall condition and the seals look like they are holding up well. It has a 14k gold fine very flex nib. $150

Can you email me photos? I'm interested in the most flexible nibbed pens. I'd GREATLY appreciate any photos showing writing with flexible. Also, when you say they need seals, what does that mean? O rings? Thank you in advance!
