Where: The Tower Hotel, 686 Burwood Rd, Hawthorn East, VIC 3123 Time: we generally start at 6.30pm - no finish time - enjoy socialising as long as you wish - you will know when to go home.
There will be talk by a well-known pen turner and calligrapher, Peter Lucas who will give us insight into how he manufactures his pens.
We might be in the upstairs room (please ask at the bar, they will direct you to the appropriate spot - they will decide on the day/night where they will be seating us depending on how many of us will be there).
Come and see us, bring your pens, show and tell!
Please note, this meeting is one week early due to Queen's Birthday Public Holiday in Victoria.
Honolulu's oldest fountain pen enthusiast group will meet at the Manoa Marketplace Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf (nextdoor to the Manoa Marketplace Safeway) on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 11am. Anyone interested is welcome.
Place: The TERRY SALMAN branch of the Vancouver Public Library, located at 4575 Clancy Loranger Way, Vancouver (by Queen Elizabeth Park & Nat Bailey Stadium)---ie. the same venue where we met in May 2018.
The library is located on the lower level of the Hillcrest Community Center, and our meeting will take place in the library's meeting room. No food allowed in the library, but covered drinks are ok. There is a snack bar (with seating) in the building and a vending machine where you can grab a bite to eat before the meeting, if you're hungry.
Topic: Pens/Pencils made by 2nd-Tier and 3-Tier Vintage Pen Companies We last did this theme in February 2014 and I've had some requests to bring it back, so I hope it's a popular one!
Not sure what constitutes a 2nd or 3rd-tier vintage pen company? Richard Binder defines these terms in his excellent glossopedia on these pages: http://www.richardspens.com/?gloss=S and http://www.richardspens.com/?gloss=T
If you have examples of vintage fountain pens/pencils made by 2nd-tier or 3rd-tier pen companies, please bring them with you to show. Other examples of these companies would be Esterbrook, Wearever, Eclipse et al. (Note: "first-tier" vintage pens were those made by companies such as Parker, Sheaffer, Wahl-Eversharp, L. E. Waterman and Conklin...but they are not the topic of our June meeting. Also modern pens will not be included in this month's topic---it'd be too vast a topic---just vintage pens/pencils).
Our secondary topic is always Newest Acquisitions, so if you have any new pens, ink or pen-related accessories (e.g. pen cases), please bring them with you to show! No need to RSVP for any regular meeting not held at a restaurant!
