On my monitor (an old Mac studio) it looks like a lovely deep red--something in which I'd certainly be interested. I'll make a point of looking at it on my Dell monitor in the office tomorrow to see how it compares. Thanks so much for the big, clear review.

I came here for the pictures and stayed for the conversation.

A deep red with nary a hint of brown on my monitor, as well. I noticed that chkuo's Pelikan Brown scan seemed quite red on my monitor, too, but all the rest have been pretty dead on.

Thanks for all the great scans, chkuo! I envy you your ink collection!

By themselves alone, I feel both Pelikan Brown and Galileo Brown look quite red. But of course, you've to admit that they are indeed "brown" if you put them next to Waterman Red:

I'd like a brown that's darker and has less red/orange in it; neither met my criteria of "true brown".

Well, I've been sucked into this ink addiction mess by other evil-doers here. Got to do something to pass down the torch you know. :roflmho:

Oh, also I don't really have that many inks; at least this is what I told myself. ;)

Yeah, right -- you can quit collecting/using inks anytime you want... ;)

I just recently got a bottle of Noodler's Burgundy and am beginning to notice a few things about it. If one shakes the bottle before filling, the color seems to darken and appears very much like what I see on my monitor for your Galileo Manuscript Brown. Has anyone actually seen these two that can offer a comparison?

haha, very funny. It's not like you are doing any better. :P

BTW, do remember that you are the one who send me this ink. As a result, I'm entitled to blame you for my ink addiction. :ltcapd:

to be honest I really didn't like this color (or Waterman Brown for that matter) .... too mauve-ish. The other issue was the nib creep .... ooowww, just a bit tooo much with this ink (whereas the Waterman behaved beautifully)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
