Kevin, are those Urushi Genkai part of the regular lineup? They're so bright! And I'm drooling...

Yes, they are in regular line up. All urushi looks a bit different under normal room light vs. bright light. The place we met is pretty bright.

Best,

Kevin

Mac, you would have a lot of fun. The thing started at 11AM and I left around 2:30PM or so and some of them hanged out until 5PM!! That's like 6 hrs of pure pens and ink... some of us forgot to have lunch. LOL.

Nice pics Lisa... thank God I did not have a bald spot on top of my head, ha!

Kevin

Thanks Kevin. Hey... speak for yourself; I'm coming to terms with the start of my balding. Glad a picture wasn't taken of my head! :gaah: Man... I really want to head up there or do Santa Barbara, whichever comes first!

Re: the photographs - My pleasure!

Re: the rainbow of Danitrios -- Those colors are darker than they appear. We were under skylights and direct sunlight, so while the colors were very vibrant and deep, they do appear brighter than they are.

all i'm going to say is

we said we'd be two hours, but we stayed for five!!!!

It seems to be that it was a most nice meeting; beautiful pens, very sane people and perfect location (tables a bit small for all the stuff). Lucky all of the people that were able to attend it!!

Oh... one of the negatives of pen meets are seeing more... pens. I've wanted a Negoro-nuri for a while; it's been on my "hit-list." Thanks to ethernautrix's picture I have that bad boy coming home to its new papa! You are all killing me! :headsmack:

PS - I'm now starting to call Kevin, "Santa". I have no choice... he always sends me goodies as a reward (to myself) for being good! :cloud9:

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
