Handcrafted Pen Wraps

After looking around without success for a pen holder I really liked, I've been making cloth pen wraps of my own design for a couple years. I use new, vintage and recovered fabrics (the recovered fabric is from second-hand clothing and linens) to make a "roll and tie" type wrap that has proven very useful for me. You probably won't carry this in a shirt pocket, but if you use a backpack, briefcase, or purse you can fit this wrap easily into a corner.

I have finally given one of these away to almost everyone I know, but I still enjoy making them! So now I am selling a few at a time on eBay ... search for "pen wrap" or look in Collectibles>Writing Instruments>Pens>Other to find the current listings. No two are the same -- if you like one, bid on it now : )

You might want to try your hand at creating one of these yourself. If so, I publish a little book titled "The Pen Wrap" at www.lulu.com that shows you how.

For previews of wraps and of the book, visit http://www.exbpens.com.

How clever! Nice ideas and very deft execution. I might buy one or two for my SO, although I personally never use anything beyond my pocket or a cigar case.

Welcome to FPN!

i really like your pen wraps. Just a week ago I started making my own pen wraps at the moment I am starting with felt,as I heard that is the best material for pens (not scratching etc..). I have made one in dark green with a leather band (and 6pen slots) and want to make one in blue and red! Only Problem is I dont have a sewing machine and even though I sew quite a bit It just would be so much quicker with a sewing machine as it really is only lots of straight lines. I love my pen wrap! But am now aspiring to ones a bit like yours but dont have so much time. Maybe with something like a turquoise silk outside and red or pink felt inside for about 12-15 pens!

Wish list: Aurora Optima

Current inked Pens: Pilot Decimo - Noodlers BBH, MB Mozart - MB Lavender

Pelikan M150 - Noodlers Kung te Cheng

Do you find that felt gets bulky when you have a wrap holding several pens? I have had that problem! However, I did make a wrap for my son for 25 brush pens and he does not seem to mind that it makes a large package. Sewing by hand would definitely take longer ...

I'd love to see a photo of your hand-sewn wrap

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
