Recommended Posts

been lurking about here for a while, so i guess its only right i say a quick hello :P

my name is pretty much ami, im from west yorkshire and i am at the age where i tend to start saying "in my days we...." :P

been playing with fountain pens, maybe just for a month, ive got 2 old mabie todd blackbird pens. i usually change ink every now and then, i definatly need more pens to play with the 10 or so bottles of ink accumulated so far. favorite inks so far are diamine, sailor, and noodlers. would like to try the other ones too!

i guess i would like to maybe play with more mabie todd pens, and later on try a few others. plenty of time to play :)

since i've started playing with fountain pens, noticed recentely loads of scraps of paper accumalting everywhere with writing, scribbles and other stuff done with fountain pens while distracted from doing useful work.

in time, i guess i would like to get to the point of trying some repair with pens, definatly improve my handwriting, which is sloppy and lazy :(

in all the time i've lurked here, i learned something new everyday, so i guess this forum will helping along the way learning what i want, and to have some fun, also

in time i hope i can contribute something useful back.

the cold frosty morning gives me an excuse to have a nice hot bath, if i ever needed another excuse to have one

have a nice day everyone!

Hi Amy, nice to have you with us. Yorkshire must be cold at this time of year still. My neck of the woods where Cheshire, Derbyshire and South Manchester meet at Disley is little warmer.

Get yourself some inks and pens with nice warm colours!

Howdy Ami and welcome to the FPN. I am sure that if you hang around here long enough, you will have several dozen fountain pens in no time at all. We are a friendly lot of people and love to share our passion for these great writing instruments.

Sincerely yours,

Ronnie Banks

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
