Hi! Just a quick de-lurk to introduce myself and confess to being bitten by the bug.

Like many I started using a fountain pen at school and gave up once I got to university and started taking reams of (sadly almost illegible) notes using ballpoints. After years of trying various incarnations of ballpoint/rollerballs and gel pens I have finally decided that a fountain pen is the only hope for my writing now

A few years ago I was intrigued to see a colleague using a Namiki Vanishing Point, looked a round to find a source and failed. After my recent decision to learn to write again I started with an old Parker from a promotional pen/ballpoint/pencil set that I happend to have laying around.

After a few days using this I thought of that Namiki VP ... Suffice to say there were some Ebay explorations and I now own black Carbonesque and Raden versions (ouch!). Both splendid pens and write remarkably well for such an unusual mechanism. Of course now I need to get ink (Pelikan to start with then PR and Noodlers and ...) which started me thinking about Pelikan pens so I have been looking at the M200 and M400 - need I say more?

This stuff is addictive I say! :P

Ah well, perhaps I will manage to resist another pen for a while.

I hope ...

Its impossible to resist. Since signing up here (not very long ago!), I've purchased six fountain pens (mostly on the recommendation of folks) - that's nearly doubled my collection.

Welcome to FPN, there is a wealth of information here and lots of fun to be had.

Well, you can only wait and see how addicted you become. I've bought two since joining, having seen Apollo's Lamy 2000 and reading about the Cross Townsend, so I bought one off ebay which I collected today. Can't imagine what will be bought next as a result of reading our fellow members' reviews! ^_^

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
