I thought I would do a short review of this beautiful pen ( Please excuse less than wonderful pictures!)

 

Shipping and nibs.com, 10/10.

I recieved this pen from Nibs.com, a wonderful company who were a pleasure to do business with.

 

Complete package, 10/10.

The pen arrived safely packaged and it came with the older style box, the one without hinges. Included in the package were the box, Pen, pen kimono, cartridge converter and a box of ten platinum blue black cartridges.

Build quality and craftsmanship, 10/10

This is (admittedly in my limited amount of fountain pens) the very best qualtiy fountain pen I own. My photo's just simply do not do this pen justice and the quality is very hard to put into words so I will use a car analogy! The mont Blanc and Waterman are like Mercedes Benz leather, the Nakaya is like Rolls Royce leather, it is just that extra bit special, an extra feeling of sturdy sumptuousness if you will!

 

It has been mentioned in reviews of Nakaya's before but I make no appology for repeating it here! The lacquer work is so deep, so rich, so scrumptious, if looked at casually it appears to be a fine finish but nothing else, but looked at in depth the finish is a multitude of colour and richness. The depth of the lacquer seems to never end, it is indeed like gazing into a still pond at sunset!

Nib, 10/10

This is the finest nib I have ever used! In a way it reminds me of Fountain pens of old that I remember. It allows the writer to communicate with the paper in an intimate and soulful way, enabling a deeper expression of thought to be transposed into physical form.

It is a large nib, I would say, if memory serves me correct, about the same size as a Pelikan M1000. John (Mottishaw) set the nib up perfectly for my described writing style, there is something wonderful in knowing a Fountatin pen has been adjusted to fit your own personal style of writing! One thing of note, this is a medium nib but writes like a fine/extra fine

Overall score is a resounding 10/10.

Even though expensive this Fountain pen is a veritable bargin! It is akin to having a Saville Row suite made for you or a Bespoke pair of fine English Brouges, Value goes beyond pecuniary measurment.

I hope this review has been of some help, I think you can tell I am enamored with this pen!

Very nice review and it just reminds me that a Nakaya is on my wish list.

 

In fact, a Nakaya pretty well is my wish list.

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of nothing at all...

Great review Ian, thank you. I really like the box presentation and the pen is exceptional! I have never tried a Nakaya but it is on my list of pens to catch at the LA Pen show. Congrats on the new beauty.

I have the exact pen purchased from the same source and agree with all of the above. When I opened the box I could not believe the beauty of the pen. One comment - my pen has a fine nib and I was not expecting such a fine line. My next Nakaya will have a medium nib. It will be interesting to compare the two. Can we make the final score 51/50? An extra point for the combined physical beauty of the pen matched up with a fantastic nib that writes like a dream. It's got everything anyone could want in a fountain pen. :thumbup:

I was suprised at first how fine the nib is but having now written a couple of dozen pages with it I am so glad I got the nib I did, it is absolutely perfect for journal writing which is nearly 100% of my writing. I had John set the nib up slightly wet and it lays down a nice dark line with the Racing green ink I use. You will know, but it is so hard to communicate the feeling of well being this pen brings!

This pen a journal are a great way to inner peace!

I so wanted to give 20/10 by the way!! :cloud9:

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
