Hello from Berkshire (UK)

Hello everyone.

I've just come in from the cold, after reading this forum for a while.

My daily pen is a Parker Duofold Centennial (currently with Pelikan violet ink) from about 1990, and I'm waiting the arrival of a black and gold Parker 51 which is being refurbished for me at the Battersea Pen Home.

I have used a fountain pen all my life. Back in the late 1960's our new primary school headmaster's insistence was that biros spoilt young handwriting. So it was either the Platignum schools dip pen or pencil! I then continued through secondary school and college with a cheap Sheaffer.

An unpleasant experience followed involving a Sheaffer Targa with a death wish. This was consigned to the bin, and I got the Duofold.

The soon to arrive Parker 51 aero will be filled with PR Super Show.

Best wishes to all on the forum,

Ian

Hi Ian

You'll soon have more pens. Trust me, I know.

Good nick. I had a Viso II, and in some ways it was nicer than any SLR. Hmm, I wonder if you could fit a digital back to one?

Best

Michael

Welcome to the fold.

Your collection will grow, and the people on here will encourage you to expand. They are a bad influence on us innocents! ;)

Visoflex,    :ltcapd: :ltcapd: :ltcapd: :ltcapd: for thinking you can resist. "Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated" . . . and then you will assimilate other pens. (Sorry - Star Trek moment now over).

Glad you're here. Looks like you off to a Parker start. Not to worry, you'll soon find out that there are other good pens too (not that there's anything wrong with Parker). Hope to see you around.

"The only way to avoid temptation is to yield to it"-Oscar Wilde. I frankly would go out of my way to acquire fountain pens as I could probably never find my happy medium without some modicum of experimentation. Why screw yourself to the wall with only one or two pens, when if they die, your washed up? Remember----

Well I only have 2 since joining FPN. Might have to work up some enthusiasm for assimilation if I'm not to become lethargic at pen collecting! :D

Error 956:// A fatal assimilation incident has occurred:

Acquisition of Sheaffer Imperial Touchdown & Hero 100 occurred on 5 and 6 April 2006 at 1430 hrs. New items will require accommodation and ink

Anyone remember the embarrassing problem Intel had with the early Pentium chips not being able to divide properly, but producing what Intel described as an - ahem - 'approximation'?

I only mention it because I saw a lovely Star Trek spoof at the time that went...

"I am Pentium of Borg. Division is futile. You will be approximated."

 Congratulations! And welcome.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
