Is the Lamy Studio a bit ugly?

I hate to go against the grain, but does anyone else find the Studio a bit boring? I think other people do this better than Lamy, and I think Lamy does better stuff than this. Also, I find the clip a bit fussy for a Lamy.

no, i do not think it is ugly, however, i think it is very special, good design, beautiful brushed steel, Studio in my opinion is just like the fashion show, a model, when you have it on your hand, it just like when people see bjork on the stage.

i do not like the traditional things, so i prefer studio, it is my own point of view.

There was a brushed chrome Studio with steel nib on Pentrace for $30.

The close-up photos turned me off.

Someone took it!

Other than the neat twist to the clip it doesn't do anything for me.

I would not go as far as ugly, but it does leave me cold. I think the twisted clip actually enhances the boring feeling... in a contrasting way.

well...beauty is in the eye of the beholder. frankly, i think the lamy studio looks better than many popular pens here, including the pelikan souveran series and the namiki vanishing point.

de gustibus non est disputandum - there's no accounting for taste.

Ah, good taste! What a dreadful thing! Taste is the enemy of creativeness.

I love the look of the Palladium version!!! So pretty, but it's on the heavy side, so I passed. I think the Studio looks nicer than the 2000, which is the more popular pen.

I tested the Palladium version here in Paris. If I remember correctly, it has a very nice gold nib, two tone (the other two models have steel nibs). I am positive that I didn't like the clip, but the pen fits my hand as a glove, specially because is a heavy pen.

Im'not sure if I would push the plastic to buy a Studio, but if I do I would go for the palladium model. Very confortable pen.

I have the 2000, but that pen, IMHO, is in another league that the Studio, a league completely different.

Just my last $0,02...

I acquired a steel Studio in a trade and although I'm not a fan of metal pens, I do like this very much. It fits my hand well and is comfortable to use without being too heavy. I don't like ultra-sleek--this is just the right balance.

i think it's bland for the most part. Not necessarily beautiful but not ugly either. The clip has a way of making me fist think "ooh cool" followed by... "well, now wait a minute, is that cool or just odd?" The lines are clean and I've always appreciated minimalism in pens.

other than that, i don't like metal pens so i've not given it much thought

I think in general, Lamy pens are the ugliest things I have ever seen, Along with the Vanishing Point. They have a very Sterile appearance and extremely bland. I find that there isnt much to them at all. In fact I dont see why people go crazy over them. Lamy this Lamy That, or Vp this and VP that, BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH!!! YUCK!!!!!

yeah - between these and the M200s, I'm just disgusted by the looks of these pens. :)

I hope I never have to see one of those hideous VP Radens in person. :D

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
