Found a chinese capless

This morning in a flea market I found a Capless pen which is not a Pilot, but a chinese replica with a steel nib, the capless mechanism is working and although the pen appears to be cheap, it writes sufficiently well. The filling system is aerometric, so as the Pilot cartridges seems to be not usable on this pen. Any information on these pens from China?

Edited to add more informations and some pictures.

The pen was in a box branded Dagong, you can see that the clip is missing and that there are some chinese (in my opinion) character on the barrel. Below some pictures.

That looks interesting. I know Platinum made a version of the capless and there is a photo here posted by Ron.

I wonder if this was a failed 70s copy - the clip is missing and it looks like there would be very little clearance for the nib if the clip was there (perhaps this is why it was removed). Is there a lid mechanism to stop the nib from drying out?

I would say you've found something very rare here!

Based on my experiences with the Pilot Capless, it's possible that the previous owner got annoyed at the clip and took it off.

Hi Siv,

a lid mechanism is present and it appears to work, I've not yet inked the pen, so as I do not know if it is effective in protecting the nib from drying.

Yes, it is possible. Or maybe the clip at a certain point broken and was took off.

Well, what does it say on the body?

There is only a number (56), plus the chinese character that I cannot read :headsmack:

I can make out the twin "Xi" character near the section end of the barrel, which suggests that the pen was a wedding present.

If you could take some more pics of the barrel while avoiding light reflecting off the barrel, I'm sure you could get it translated here.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
