What MBs are you using today?

I'll be packing a 1990s 149 fine nib filled with MB blue black, an unsaturated slate blue with nice shading that has a beautiful vintage/weathered look. Probably my favorite ink of all time. My back up is a 1980s 146R medium nib filled with Pelikan blue black, a pretty nice shade of blue too, though darker. They'll be carried in my new old stock Diaries and Notes tan 2 pen case.

I just flushed the Louis I was using for the past 2 days. My writing session will start later today, so I have nothing inked yet. Not sure if it will be a MB at all.

I am at home today so will be using my Greta Garbo - I'm want to plan next week and get my to-dos sorted. It has MB Violet ink which is my 'winter' colour. I'm looking forward to spring when I will change over to some sort of Turquoise.

My five rules for living:

1. Free your heart from hatred, 2. Free your mind from worries, 3. Live simply, 4. Give more, 5. Expect less

My pens: MB Greta Garbo; MB 149; MB Mozart; Lamy Safari; Lamy Al-Star; Lamy Joy

I've been using my Faulkner a lot recently. WOW! What an awesome pen! I'm so glad I own this guy! The more I use it the more it's grown on me. I feel like this pen kind of flies under the radar of the other MB WE. Maybe that's why it's so appealing to me. I love the simplicity of it. I highly recommend it!!!!!!!

OT: Jeen, does the Diaries and Notes 2-Pen case have a divider so the pens don't rub against each other?

Back on-topic... I'll be using my beloved 146 today.

Hi Jager,

Yes, there is a divider, so you don't have to clip them in.

My MB204 Desk Pen and a self-repaired 149 with an OF nib. I'm still trying to get the hang of the OF nib.

Hard times don't last, but hard people do.

Thank a Veteran.

An OF? A factory nib or modification?

Factory. I got it on eBay. It's got a definite sweet spot, and it you 'lean' to far on way or the other it scratches.

Im using my 146p with DC Supershow. Came back Friday from the MB store with a new fine nib and that thing was smoother than the medium it came with, which was smooth in its own right. No skipping, no creep, and best of all, I can leave it uncapped and though the first letter may be half-formed, it will write beautifully on the restart

Glad things turned out well!

Do you find the line width finer now?

An early 1950s 146 with a semi-flex medium nib inked with Waterman's Florida Blue. This pen is in my permanent rotation because of its fantastic nib and warm celluloid material.

Yes, the width of the line is perfect. It still allows shading, moreso it seems on the bottom half of the characters, but still is fine enough to allow formation of 'e' and other similar letters when I write small, but not too fine as to be toothy or without character.

Today would by my Edgar Alan Poe, my only MB FP, filled with MB Bordeaux. B nib writes a nice wet line without be overly broad.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
