Over the next few days/weeks I'm doing a lot to get the site moving again. I've updated the front page with the following message which sums it up:

The site has been minimally maintained over the past few years. Spammers and other bots have taken a toll, not just on the content but also on undue load on the server. This is changing. The site is being moved to a new server with advanced caching in a content delivery network. There are pros and cons but it gives me more latitude to filter out the bad traffic and make it easier for the people who really want to use the site to do so.
This means that over the next few days (or weeks) I'm going to be doing a lot of maintenance on the database, optimizing the site, and updating content. When I update the database from the development server it can overwrite changes made in the meantime. For the time being I recommend not updating or adding content. If you really want to or want to help in cleaning up the content, contact me in advance so that we can coordinate our efforts.
I really appreciate everyone's time and effort and I'm very anxious to make sure that time and effort is not wasted. Thank you for your patience.

Ha!  I just found three new pen shops in my area that I didn't know existed.  Thanks!

You may have a better response if you post again in  Members helping Members with the title  Pen Shops in Pakistan? I understand that there are pen repairers in Karachi and Parker dealers in Islamabad, if online shopping is available to you then this may be a better option for the Pelikan.

Hi and thanks for this great idea!

I went to the page on the site for editing the database, but apparently it’s only set up to add shops and not delete them? Sadly, for the pen business the latter is going to be just as important as the former. For example, in NYC Art Brown International Pen Shop closed on 8/9/2013. I’m pretty sure Joon Pen also closed down some time ago (their website’s not up, their FB page hasn’t been updated for three years and their blog has been dormant since 2010). It’s a sorry state of affairs in the big apple!

Sadly, commercial rents in Gotham (not just Manhattan: Brooklyn's gone bonkers in this regard as well) have chased away quite a few great stores, which, with no small irony, were part of what made the city more interesting. Not a good omen.

It seems almost every day someone on FPN asks "where in my town can I buy pens?" Some of these queries unfortunately go unanswered while others get answered again and again. Because these posts are not indexed by location, there's often no good way for the newcomer to search the archives and get the answer. A list here on FPN would soon become difficult to manage.

In response to this need, there is now an online pen shop directory at http://www.penshops.info/. The directory is searchable by brand names of pens or inks, geographic location, or even with a map that shows a "pin" for each shop.

The shops can be commented on and rated by the users, and any registered user can add or edit shops and shop descriptions. Some of the features are a little rough around the edges, but it should be able to give a person looking for a store enough information to get there.

What it needs now is to be filled with shop locations. It won't turn into a perfect resource overnight, but so long as we add the stores to the directory as the questions come in, it shouldn't be too long before we will be able to refer newcomers to the directory and let them find the answers from everyone that has ever asked the question.

Suggestions, feature requests, and problems can be reported to Splicer by PM or by sending a message through the website's feedback form at http://www.penshops.info/contact. I'm excited to get this project started and I look forward to seeing how it will grow over time!

Hey, it looks like Bittner is having it's January Sale for another five days. All the discounts look pretty good, and there's a coupon code for an additional 5% off. They have some Namikis I'm definitely eyeing. Coupon code is 545.
