... FS : My homemade/handmade journals ...

TMLee

Recommended Posts

Gee... Wael , you're fast !

OK , gimme some time, let me make one first ...

A new challenge of sorts for me.

I am planning as hard as possible how to make as many journals as possible with 4 sheets, but this time unlike previous "Black Ties", these new ones will see front and rear covers having symmetrical graphics.

So far, my preliminary findings are that the 4 sheets can yield :

- 2 A5 ;

- 2 A6 ;

- 1 A6 landscaped with leather spine like #28B "Letters"

I managed to finish one A6 journal. So as promised, here is what it looks like ...

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/TMLee/Journal%2058%20Red%20Stripes%20on%20Black/DSCF5410.jpg

Front cover and rear cover

The exposed spine stitches

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/TMLee/Journal%2058%20Red%20Stripes%20on%20Black/DSCF5416.jpg

Full spread, the graphics flow continuously from one cover to the next despite the disruption in the spine.

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/TMLee/Journal%2058%20Red%20Stripes%20on%20Black/DSCF5415.jpg

This is the first time I am using black flyleaves, but I think it has to bcos of the strong colors in the graphics.

The adjustable "anti drop-out " flap is added

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/TMLee/Journal%2058%20Red%20Stripes%20on%20Black/DSCF5413.jpg

I think it looks stunning, not subtle , but not loud either. :D

This will be Journal #62 "Capetown"

I have been itching to do maps for a long time.

I found this recently. 12" x 12" paper printed with an old map of South Africa.

Can anyone tell what/when map is this ?

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/TMLee/Journal%2062%20Capetown/DSCF5778.jpg

I haven't started making the journals yet.

But I am planning to make a set of 3 journals in the manner of "Partridges" done sometime back.

So the completed set would comprise :

1 x A5 size = 7 signatures, 112 pages; (USD$27)

1 x A6 size = 6 or 7 signatures , 96 or 112 pages; (USD$18 or $20)

1 x A7 mini size = 4 signatures, 64 pages (USD$13)

You pay $shipping.

I am offering as a set of 3 journals. I think they make a great family.

If you don't need all 3 , perhaps you can buy the set then gift either of them away.

( Any Capetown folks here in FPN ? :D )

Disclaimer and notes :

1) I haven't started yet nor have planned when to start crafting them,

2) I can't confirm how long I will take to finish them when I start. At times it can be as fast(slow) as one night, and at times - weeks  (as explained before, I don't do this fulltime)

3) The map is interesting - it has little towns and cities labelled - probably in their old names? I am not sure. I have done some preliminary layouts, and I foresee some parts of the map will be hidden due to the foldover parts. (unless I come up with a totally different journal design. Ambitious, but it remains a remote possibility - for now) So if you happen to want a certain town to appear in your cover, I can't guarantee that .

4) You only pay when the journals are completed and are ready for shipping

5) If for some reason the payment doesnt fall thru even after ordering, the set will then be re-listed to be offered for sale again.

6) Since they are not made yet, you can let me know your preferences for things like :

- whether you don't want a ribbon pagemarker , or

- grey or vanilla or white writing paper ,

- pocket or no pocket , etc

We can work together to see if I can meet your requirements, within my ability of course.

Any takers ?

Usual rules apply, first "I want it" will get it. Whether via threadpost OR backchannel OR PM.

Thanks for looking.

Here are only some of the more closeup shots of the map...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
