Need help identifying a Mabie Todd pen

My girlfriend found a pen in a charity shop. It is, as far as I can tell, a ED fill. It's very dark green rubber or plastic, almost black, with black scallops on the body. The body has:

THE "SWAN" PEN

MABIE TODD & Co Ltd

MADE IN ENGLAND

on it, and the cap has:

TRADE [picture of a swan] MARK

1500

and

"CLIPPER"

M.T. & Co

MADE IN ENGLAND

on the metal clip. The nib has:

"SWAN"

1

14Ct

MABIE TODD

& Co Ltd

MADE IN

ENGLAND

Just where the cap would be posted:

"SWAN" 1500

The section has a slightly oval profile. There's some sort of plastic thing to hold the nib and carry ink to it.

Basically, I'd like to know a bit more about it. Hope I've given enough information :)

Thank you!

Yours,

Ben

You already said it- the company is Mabie Todd & Co. and the model is the Swan 1500. It is indeed and ED fill.

If you want more info on the company, google for "mabie todd" and "mabie todd swan" for other pens in that line.

WTB: Lamy 27 w/ OB/OBB nibs; Pelikan 100 B nib

Thanks :) Knowing that the number was the model designation helps a lot. I guess it seemed like a silly question but it's not a maker I'm at all familiar with.

It would probably be made of black hard rubber (BHR) which has faded to what you see now , around 100 yrs old. Mabie Todd where big in England and makers of high quality pens , in fact one of the best. Swan was the top, Swallow the 2nd line, Blackbird 3rd and they had a 4th line as well. A good find !!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
