Pen club in Minneapolis/St. Paul area?

Coming late to this thread, but I could uncloak from Internet anonymity long enough to meet up with some fellow pen folks! On the January 24th date, has Barry agreed to open the store, and are the IDS elevators going to be unlocked (being a Saturday)?

There is another, long-running pen club that meets somewhere in the Twin Cities. I spoke to a couple of older women packing their Esties in their purses one day in the pen area of Art Materials (on Lyndale), who told me of their meetings, but, at the time, I wasn't interested enough to jot down the details. Barry might know of them, but I haven't asked.

I've been up there on Saturdays without elevator issues etc. Robert Hughes made the arrangements with Barry, so he'd have to answer the rest.

He said, "call back later". So I'll try again next week.

And as you can see, Ethernautrix has committed ... to buying long underwear! She must be serious...

Hello Twin Cities Pen Gathering Friends,

Look what I found — a recent radio blog interview of Barry Rubin from Ink. I just listened to it (about 30 minutes long) and he talks about how he started up his store and also what to expect once you arrive at his unusual store for an appointment. It's also fun just to listen to someone who likes pens talk about them. Enjoy. I'm looking forward to this event! :)

Just listened through it all. He sounds like a really cool guy, I'm really looking forward to going to the store!

Got to love those parting words "Use your own pen." Or that quote from WCCO, "The five worst words you can say during flu season, 'Can I borrow your pen?'" Classic.

Considering they're talking about 20 below later this week.

We're also talking about the possibility (in addition to Ink) of a Sunday brunch, possible at the Monte Carlo or elsewhere, if anybody wants to rub shoulders some more.

From where I'm sitting, it's a picnic blue-sky day. Walked up the street to the local caffe latte dispensary, and I can hardly believe it's winter, fer crissake.

Now... let's check Minneapolis... hold on...

"Two hours ago" was approximately 4:30, and I was about a quarter or a third into my Benny Doubleback.

Might I interject with a word of suggestion? Two or more FPN members gathering for the purpose of sharing their interest in pens, inks, and papers constitutes a Pen Posse. Yes, the minimum is two. How hard is that?

Go for it.

If you get ten it's a Minyan. :)

If I bring Scrybe's former groupies, they're Minions...

And another thing - what happens if they arrive in a Minivan?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
