Pen club in Minneapolis/St. Paul area?

Are there any? Is anyone interested in starting one?

I don't have a ton of free time, but I've been thinking I really need to find some people to spend time with that will actually appreciate my new acquisitions. My co-workers and friends aren't terribly interested.

Maybe set up a meeting somewhere after the holidays?

It may not ever happen, but I'd love to meet up with some MSP folks at some point. I'm in Duluth, and I don't make it to the Twin Cities terribly often- and when I do, it usually 24/7 family time- grandparents need to see the baby and all that. :) But, if we planned an event, or even just a meeting I might be able to swing it.

If there is a pen club of some sort down there, I'd be hesitant to randomly make a 6 hour round trip to show up for a regular meeting, if only because niche hobbies tend to have smaller clubs, have meetings where no one shows up, etc. :P

Maybe we could all go on a pilgrimage to that appointment-only store, Ink?

I'd love to share recent acquisitions, debate A or B, have a beer/tea/a bite, try some paper, etc!

WTB: Lamy 27 w/ OB/OBB nibs; Pelikan 100 B nib

I'd be interested, but with the knowledge that I would be a member of rather inconsistent attendance!

I thought I heard about something already existing, but I'm not sure.

Pens currently in carrying case: Lamy 2000 F with Noodler's Navy/Bulletproof Black mix, Sheaffer Imperial M with Noodler's Golden Brown, and Lamy Logo F with Noodler's Bulletproof Black.

The wife and I were there a couple of months ago. We were in town for a convention, (Not the DNC)

The view alone is worth the trip. But the pens and Barry Rubin, the owner, are what really makes the trip worth while.

If you get a chance go and enjoy. You'll probably find a pen to buy also. I got a NOS Visconti.

Ahright ! More Minnesotans - add the rest of us to your list. A meeting could be fun.

Looks like we're getting a quorum together for a TBD meeting somewhere in Minneapolis, maybe Ink. I've contacted the following Minnesotans -

Rena

JMKeuning

Beardy

RevAaron

Amyr

Cylvre

Know of anyone else who might be interested?

Might I interject with a word of suggestion? Two or more FPN members gathering for the purpose of sharing their interest in pens, inks, and papers constitutes a Pen Posse. Yes, the minimum is two. How hard is that?

Go for it.

Well you can come too, then. But you gotta tell what that thing is in your avatar?

Oh, yeah. Add Cylvre to the list.

Heads up fellow frozen pen friends. I've just called up the owner at INK to see if we can arrange a get-together there. Would a Saturday afternoon, say 2 weeks out (January 24) work for most of you?

Wow! That's a fabulous looking store, Robert!

Dealing with pangs of jealousy now. No, it's okay. I'll be all right...

Maybe we could get Ethernautrix to come out and be our guest speaker! That'd be fun. You could show us the pens you almost broke!

Say, EtherX, have you ever tried ... Lutefisk? Hmmm? Ever fished on da ice? Barbecued at -20F?

We have lots of fun here in Minnesota, right everybody? Yah, you bet!

I could... I could, why, I could... break some pens in front of your very eyes!

OOoooooOOO...

Don't you try to lure me with your Lutefisk, Mr. Minnesota! And your ICE FISHING! You know how to catch a polar bear? You cut a hole in the ice and place some dead fish next to it, and when the polar bear comes along, you kick it in the ice hole.

I'm onto you.

No, seriously, it would be fun. Tempting...

Oh man, ice fishing. Really? Do dreams really come true?

This looks good to me! I would love to meet fellow fountain pen enthusiasts in the Twin Cities! And Ethernautrix, wouldn't it be great to have icicles dangling from your earlobes?! Come join us. I suggest inviting Philm (another Twin Citian) and Sheila (just outside the cities) to come along as well if they can make it.

I'm definitely up for it. I also passed this along to Ryan (rroosnick) because he's a known Ink denizen. He said there is an outside chance he'll join us...but not to count him in on the double-secret official Pantheon register... :)

I've already gotten this out to some, but if anyone is planning on heading down by way of I-94 past St. Cloud (and back up again, I work at 9am on Sunday) I'd pitch in for gas!

I don't live up that way or I'd be glad to...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
