Parker 51 Cap brassing

I have a 12k GF Parker "51" cap that has some brassing on it. Is there a way to polish this out? Any certain polishes that are good for this task?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Bob, are you sure that is brassing... it looks more like some staining to me...

I reecommend the Sunshine Cloth that Richard Binder sells. I have used it on the gold fittings on all my pens and it really brings up a fantastic shine and has taken away what I thought was brassing and found out was staining.

Actually, you are right, it is more like staining. So I am definately going to try the cloth you mentioned. Hopefully I will have my cap back to it's original luster.

Thanks again,

Bob

I called a couple local Jewlers to find a Polishing Cloth. None carried the Sunshine brand but I did buy a similar product.

Needless to say it did not get rid of any of the stains. It did give the cap a nice shine, but the stains are still there.

Are all polishing cloths similar? Is the Sunshine brand any different that it might remove the stains?

The Jewler I talked to said he could polish the Cap on his polishing wheel for $20. Does that sound like a good price to get this done?

Thanks again.

Either the rouge cloth in our catalog or a light treatment with the Tryphon pen polish will work. Your cap should go back to looking like new. Go easy with the rouge cloth/pen polish and stop as soon as the stains are removed.

Is a Rouge cloth different from a Jewlers cloth? If so, I will definately be ordering the Rough cloth, plus I would like to try the Pen Polish. I think I will try to remove the stains befoe I turn it over to the Jewler to polish them out.

Here is a pic of the cloth I bought at the Jewlers.

What you have in the picture is a silver polishing cloth. We also sell it, for ..polishing silver pens.

The rouge cloth is more aggressive: go easy at first.

You may try the polish instead: again, be careful, there are polishes that will remove plating very quickly. Tryphon pen polish should work very well on your cap. Your cap is gold filled, so it should respond very well to careful polishing.

Good luck!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
