Let's Go Back A Few Decades

We are going to go back a few decades.... I believe this pen was produced in the 1940's... it is Sheaffer Junior with a semi-flexible fine nib.....

This pen was purchased on eBay for a song with a matching color (but not set) pencil.

The material is one of the most beautiful green multistripes I have ever seen... as you turn the pen in the light the colors fade and glow and turn to various shades of green and blue.... it is a beautifu pen...

The fittings are chrome plated and there is no brassing on the clip, band or lever bar like you might find on a gold plated pen. There is a slightly ambered visualated section that allows you to see how much ink remains.

When I took it apart to resac it, I noticed a tube that was slanted to lean against the sac. I am assuming from what I have read that this was to aid the air flow back from the feed.

It is a small pen, measuring 4.75" capped and 5.875" posted and only .375 at the joint of the section and body... and extremely light in weight.

But surprisingly for me it is a very comfortable pen to write with... and the nib lays down a beautifully wet line with the Parker Quink Black I loaded it with. I was pleasantly surprised by a slight amount of spring or flex in the nib, if I put a little pressure on it.... since I write with a light hand, I will have to concentrate to get this effect.

This is my third lever fill Sheaffer and I think I am getting hooked.... prior to this I only had some TDs and Snorkels in my collection.

I could not get the greens in the body of the pen to come up in the photo... when I get around to setting up my photo booth, I will shoot this again.... the pen is a whole lot more stunning than the photo shows.

Hey Tom, that is a nice pen. I love the visulated section and I know what you mean by not capturing the colours, cameras never do those striped barrels any favours. Thanks for showing it off.

I have one exactly like it! It is one of my two favorite pens.

Yes, the nib is a bit flexible; mine is what I'd call extra fine, and slightly scratchy, but it is surprisingly nice to write with. I like the shading effect that it produces, though my handwriting is not even close to being as nice as yours.

Enjoy!

Well, they invented the lever filler and they got it right. Very nice pen.

Best

And I've got the same pen, but in red. It took a while to adjust to the small size and light weight, but it's the "sweetest" pen I have, the nib glides over the paper effortlessly and leaves a beautiful wet line. I like it better than the larger versions that I have. Enjoy! BTW-great looking restoration on that.

BTW-great looking restoration on that.

The only "restoration" needed was resacing and a cleaning the nib.... a quick wipe down with one of Richard's Sunshine Cloths and the pen glowed... it was in amazing shape... the pencil is in the same kind of shape.. unfortunately it is not a factory match.. but a perfect color match...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
