Which Cursive Italic for M200 Pelikan

Hello all,

I'd like to get some opinions. I have a Pelikan M200 with a fine nib. I'd like to get a Cursive Italic from Richards Pens. Which size does everyone prefer and why? I was thinking the 1.1mm but I see a lot of folks liking their 0.7mm. Is 1.1mm too large? Let's have some opinions and rationale here.

Thanks in advance.

- Mike

At the risk of sounding like a cop out, it will depend a great deal on the size of your writing. If you are used to a fine then going larger than a 0.7 may be a bit too much of a shock to the system. I would suggest that you try with that a 0.7 and if you want you can move up a size and sell the old one on the Marketplace, there will always be buyers for a Binder nib.

I DO have a couple of the Pilot 78Gs with Stub nibs but I don't know what millimeter size those represent. I really like them and enjoy writing with them. If anyone knows what size those are maybe I'll have a basis for comparison.

From experience they seem to run at about 1.2mm but I would wait for a more definitive answer.

Well, I know the 78G stub is either broad or double broad. You mentioned you have a Pelikin M200 Fine. Boy, big difference there! I'm guessing the Pelekin M200 fine is more like a pilot medium. I'd say you like medium to broad, European style. So, what's that in mm? LOL, I don't know... and I'm not sure why I responded to this post.

Give U some moral support I guess. Good luck with your search for the perfect cursive italic. I'm on that search as well. I like Asian fine. I have no idea what mm that is???

Well, in ballpens I always liked fine so that's what the first FPs I bought were. But I thought I'd try something else, and wow, I liked them. So now I have some of each, and to each their purpose.

Thanks for the moral support.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
