no modern ones I'm afraid.

You appear to have misread the question. Perhaps repeating it will help. "Which Sheaffer makes you swoon?"

No need to get nasty!

I stand by my answer.

Sheaffer is my favourite manufacturer and I enjoy their modern pens but it is the pre-1940 pens generally get my heart beating a little faster....

Early (c. 1922) Red Hard Rubber (scarce) ....

The early overlays are also very "dishy" ....

c. 1920 #3 lined ribbon overlay (gold filled) Fountain Pen and Pencil set

http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj1/sarjminhas/GFoverlay01.jpg

Sheaffer introduced Jade Celluloid (Radite) around 1924.... very pretty, but don't know if I would "go steady" with these as they tend to discolour ..

All said and done, it is the streamlined OS Balances that really get my pulse racing....

I'm watching right now for a Red Veined Balance.

Any clean and charming vintage Sheaffer can make me swoon, as when it comes to old pens, I'm adrenally insufficient so don't handle stress well.

And, Balance is my second most collected pen after Vacumatic.

So, where to start where to start where to start????

OK. I like Balance in pretty celluloids with great color, mintiness and or off-the-beaten-pathedness.

Hiding in my collection are some mint and/or stickered wee gems, including an unusual wide band pen that lends some company provenance to that uncatalogued items (and in Carmine, yet!)

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheafferbalancemintsets.jpg

I like stickered mint Ebonized Pearl with box and instructions. Swooned a bit when met this one.

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheafferbalanceebonmintset.jpg

Superb color, again, floats the boat. This one is stone cold black/white-pearl, underserved by the photo

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheafferbalanceblackpearl850a.jpg

Or oddities, such as this Canadian Balance somewhat WASP-like clip...

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheafferbalancebrowncanadian50.jpg

Again, pens with uncatalogued cap-bands. This Canadian pen has cap-band I've never seen on another Balance.

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheafferbalancecarmineweirdband599.jpg

Uncatalogued scarce double cap-band Balances

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheafferbalancedoublebandtrioa850.jpg

And a gem OS Set in Marine Green, again with scarce double cap-band

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheafferbalancedoublebandosset850.jpg

Long fond of superb jade, i swooned when i had chance to grab this mint superb color OS Balance

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheafferbalanceosmintjade850.jpg

Or a scarce cherry red celluloid Balance Loaner, still with sticker...

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheafferbalanceredloaner850a.jpg

Or an exquisite Carmine Balance set with uncatalogued fish-scale cap-band. Swooooned away, I did

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheafferbalanceredfishscale50per.jpg

And since we're on Carmine, here's one that won't leave the collection for a looong time, a Carmine OS Balance with wide "jeweler's" Cap-band, an uncatalogued but well recognized variety. Clean.

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheafferbalanceosredjeweler.jpg

Long been fond of the scarce-ish Blue marbled pattern.

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheafferblueblackspread.jpg

Double uncatalogued! Double-capband AND "reverse" (white on black pen) trim.

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheafferblancereversetrimdualband50.jpg

I swooned a wee bit over eache of these Sheaffer Combos. Pretty clean bunch with nice color

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheaffercombolargespread.jpg

And espically this clean and relatively uncommon Lifetime Marine Green Marble combo

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheaffercombomarinelifetime.jpg

Price stickered Balance "convertible" (end removes to take a Telephone Dialer at least. Not sure have ever seen a desk pen form and quite sure never have seen a combo from an OS). The scarcity and condition caused swooning.

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheafferconvertable850.jpg

Moving back in time, a large, clean OS flat-top in chased black hard rubber.

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheafferflattopchasedos50pe.jpg

And forward- a near mint (pic a bit light) Carmine 1940's Sheaffer Triumph-nib fat set in box

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheafferfat1250set.jpg

And forward some more, that Lennox made-for-sheaffer (and so stamped) 1960-ish Lady Sheaffer Turkey desk set with matching moire pens.

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheafferdesksetturkey1blue850.jpg

continuing with some swoonables.

Moving back again (sorry bad pic, not done in my light box), an uncatalogued coral (orangish red ) plastic Sheaffer flat-top BANDLESS with CHROME trim.

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheafferflattopredchrometrim.jpg

Swoooonnnnn.... clean and uncommmon 1920's metal overlays...

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheafferflattopoverlaytrio850a.jpg

And early era pens again, chased black flat-tops in uncommon ziggy pattern (what's the guy in NJ call 'em, "lane change"?)

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheafferflattopzigzag850.jpg

Again, variants and oddities. Black/Pearl flat-top in anomalous plastic. The colors are more streaky and less chunky than usual.

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheafferflattopstreaks850a.jpg

And, the swoon worthy Sheaffer sub-brands. The Lahn pattern WASPS and sibs. The green one was cleaned up by the fellow in NJ .

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheafferlahnlargespread850a.jpg

I swooned with each of these acquisations. Putting 'em in tray for shot was beyond swoon and into seized piston. All OS

http://removed.xyz/penteech/sheafferosbalancetray.jpg

And for my friends of the Christian persuasion... The Holiday Shot.

http://removed.xyz/penteech/christmassheaffer.jpg

On that note, i must get some sleep. Was a looong night. More later, maybe.

I initially come up with "lane change" when discussing the pattern with Rob Morrison at the DC show, but after some consideration, I think "lane shift" is a bit more accurate, though it lacks the pleasing near-rhyming sound of the former.

Filling a fountain pen is much more fun than changing a printer cartridge

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
