BB and BBB nibs. What brand has them?

On KCat post I just saw some of you talking about BB and BBB nibs.

I am really interested.

Is it fair for an intelligent and family oriented mammal to be separated from his/her family and spend his/her life starved in a concrete jail?

Aurora has a BB. Stipula used to have a 1.3 italic, and Stipula's 1.1 italic is wider than Aurora's BB.

Pelikan does, too. My everyday pen is an M800 BB italic. But other makers have nibs just as broad, if not more so, and still call them Medium or Broad. A better measurement is the actual line width.

Good question. What follows is my best guess. - The Japanese "big three" (Platinum, Namiki and Sailor) plus Nakaya and Danitrio Hakasa all offer BB nibs, or so I thought. Those BB nibs write somewhere between a Western B and BB. I have several and I really like them. I do not know if Japanese manufacturers have 3B nibs available for special order.

Pelikan has both BB and 3B nibs in the Souverain series. I thought Montblanc had BB nibs regularly available and 3B as special order options in the Meisterstueck series.

There's at least one vendor on eBay selling BB points for Sonnets. He's got some obliques as well.

Omas has BB (no 3B IIRC) nibs. For a short time, I had a BB Paragon (old style) that was really, really nice- ball tip, but it had some nice line variation. The nicest thing about it IMHO is the ebonite feed- the resulting writing had a lot more character and shading than the only other BB nib I have, a Lamy 80. I love the 80- glassiest nib I've used, ever- but it is more of a paintbrush, everything is so *even*, it kind of looks boring. :P

I have a Pelikan M620 Piazza Navona with a BB nib

But the nib's profile looks like a stub, and writes like one too

Most places don't carry anything but EF, F, M, B Lamy 2000s- some places will special order them, but it would probably be faster to just buy one and send the pen in to Lamy Service for a nib swap. Bob Nurin at Lamy USA stocks:

I saw in Lamy web page that this option is only available to Lamy 2000. I wish there was a way for me to get an extra BB or even BBB for my Safaris, Vistas and Studios.

Can you tell I am a Lamy fan :)

Noooooooooooooo! I hunted ages to find my 2!

Nib killer!!!

Guilty as charged! But now it's a nice fine cursive italic; and I can send people mail without them asking me if the doctors have forbidden me to have sharp objects. :ltcapd:

You could always take a $100 nib in a $20 pen to the next level and send a $10 steel nib into Greg or John to be retipped. :)

I bought a Pelikan 800 on Ebay and it came with a BB nib. I gave it an honest try but really don't like a broad round point nib. I don't mind writting wide with a stub or italic but really don't like the way the BB writes. I ended up replacing it with a fine nib which I really enjoy using. I would like to trade the BB for a xf or maybe I'll have it ground to an italic.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
