DEWEN Chinese fountain pen

Recommended Posts

I bought this Dewen Chinese pen on eBay for $2.99 including S&H. No skipping, no scratching smooth fine nib. Writes better than much more expensive pens I have got do. Black anodized barrel and cap, mate plastic section. It is a tiny pen! The length capped is 123 mm, uncapped 115 mm, posted 143 mm. The barrel/cap diameter is 10.3 mm. Sturdy, well finished body. Try, you will not be disappointed.

Thank you. I have purchased several pens from them, the most recent being a pair of Dukes, a D10 Silver Rings, and a Mako Shark. Great vendor of low cost, quality pens (not affiliated, unfortunately for me).

Yeah that arrow clip reminds me too of a Parker.

What type of converter is in there? Twist?

It comes with a nice squeeze bar converter, but I have replaced it with twist one.

Yes, both from goldquills(no affliation).

for my starter pens. They'll be much easier to mourn if someone walks off with them or I manage to lose them, plus cheap doesn't necessarily mean bad, right?

I haven't gotten a chance to write with them yet.

I bought cartridges, but they were too fat by a few millimeters.

so I bought Private Reserve Black Cherry, my first bottle of FP ink....and I forgot the pens back at my dorm.

So I will get something of a review up on how they write when I get the chance--a lot of people probably don't use fountain pens because of the initial investment, so if you can start with a much cheaper pen before deciding if it's for you or not, it'll be much easier to convince others.

I do have one gripe. there was a dent in the red one when I got it in the mail. I wish they would sent them with some cardboard or something to sandwich them in.

Also, Adallak is right, they are tiny, which is perfect for me. I don't like massive pens.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
