Following Dillo's good idea, let us start also a thread dedicated to share Danitrio's pictures. Sure there must be a lot of them by now and it would be also a good idea to share them in one site. Any photograph would do. It would be nice to see yours also

I'll start with pens in my own collection. I typically like maki-e themes that has "meanings" to me or maki-e that tells a story, a tale etc. Back in College, I was able to participate in a Kabuki class and get to know many of the Kabuki moves and plays. This pen brings back good memories and remain one of my favorite. The maki-e is based on the famous kabuki play "Kanjincho" and you can read the story here:

http://www.man-pai.com/kabuki/kanjincho_e.htm

Here are shots by Bill R (much better than mine):

Thanks Kev, what nice photos by Bill R. :notworthy1: when I grow-up I would like to acciquire his photographic abilities :clap1: including some from Laura, Leigh and Lisa (3 L's?) They have a very fine taste and photographic sensibility... perhaps that's too much to be desired?!

And... this Mikado section... spectacular!

The difference, you have a strong reason and the theme is most important and significative for you. It wouldn't be my case, but I now understand you very well. Yes, I agree with you, the theme or the pen itself has to have some special meaning for you; it has to "speak to you and have its own meaning and/or history. This is most important, not just liking it... that's not enough for me...

I knew someone with more Dani-Trios would come in to do this! :) I have only one that I use very rarely.

The only reason I don't use it much is because it has an italic nib. The original nib was a steel nib, then I asked Kevin to supply me a broad gold nib for a different Dani-Trio (The Hanryo which uses the same size nib). I ground the 18K broad into an italic, then after that, I plated it with rhodium so that it would match the pen. It's an incredible nib, and writes wonderfully when I have to do some calligraphy, but I use it for little else.

This is another one from my own collection and this pen has been inked continuously ever since I got it back in 2004. She accompanies me to all pen shows I attended, and many of you got to tried it out in person. She is the only woman that my wife does not get jealous. LOL.

The pen is based on one of Japan's fairy tale "Kaguyahime", and the story is here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tale_of_the_Bamboo_Cutter

I keep hoping she would turn around... but I think it is best to leave to imagination :-)

Now, seriously... Why do you show such things to the rest of the mortal people? That's not fair, dear Kevin...

I think that you are right in having it always with you... on the other side, your wife should be more cautious with you!

Not only the woman (Princess Kaguya I suppose...), but the raden moon in combination with her... and this bamboo... what a special taste and sensibility to do such a magnificent work! This is a very special pen... a very special companion. I congratulate you. Thanks for sharing such beautiful photos, this may be the nearest I can get to something so special...

Nice bunch of Danis Leigh, and as always nice photos. Thanks... BTW, which one is the raden in the middle?

I like your froggies, let me post here another insect eater (swallow), a Densho by Kogaku, in a style that I like very much. Wisteria and Swallows...

A general view of the pen with its sweet balanced design...

Nice Wisteria with raden details...

This next pen I actually helped designed and is based on one of the most well known Japanese samurai battle, the 4th battle at Kawanakajima between the Warlord "Tiger of Kai" Takeda Shingen and "Dragon of Echigo" Uesugi Kenshin. You can read about this battle here:

I am not good with photo editing collage... but here you go:

Kinsey Pens also make a pen based on this famous battle. It is also nicely done, but the battle was fought in early AM just as fog was lifting, so I do feel white background is more appropriate... but, then, I am biased :-)

All of these Danis are lovely. Leigh's frog catches my attention, though. I have seen that pattern before and I love it. Leigh, is the pen a Takumi or a Densho?

It's a TAkumi cc filler. It is certainly an unique maki-e subject.

From the Takumis, this is the one that shares most of my working hours with me. It is a precious Urushi finish in Karanuri, bright red and is fitted with a soft EF nib. It has not got any story, it writes it's own story every day, it behaves brave and as a perfect workhorse. This Urushi finish is perhaps the hardest and more durable of the ample variety of Urushi finishes around...

Kevin, is your Kaguyahime pen a flat top mikado or an ocatgon? Are the octagon models in regular production?

The Kaguyahime is flat top Takumi cc filler, round barrel (about size of MB 149).

Currently octagon is only availalbe in either Tamenuri or Kuro-dame finishes.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
