Here you go.

If you must get a ballpoint (spitiii...us.and...tchch, yick ehhhhch),

then there are only a couple to choose from:

On the cheap side, a Lamy, and on the more expensive side,

A CaranDache.

The Golilath reflill is simply the nicest refill out there.

You may want to examine this site that offers a number of ball-points, including some that are part of a set, on this web site : http://www.vintagepens.com/catill_ballpoints.shtml. There are a few that are in your price range.

Enjoy, and dream for a few minutes, hours, days...

How about helping our economy and buying an American pen? Fisher Space Pens manufactures their pens in Nevada and has been true to their mission of providing a quality pen at a reasonable price.

Personally, I'd buy the Fisher Astronaut.

Good Luck!

Fisher Space pen refills come with a plastic suplement which allows them to fit in any Parker-compatible ballpoint. Besides, they write nicely (as nicely as a ballpoint can write, naturally) and they write in any circumstance, any angle (even upside down), on wet paper, on oily paper, if the weather is hot, if the temperature is freezing, they never skip. These refills are the most dependable you will find IMHO.

So, I suggest you choose either a Fisher pen or any Parker-refillable pen with a Fisher refill.

Best of luck.

over the last few weeks, I've developed an immense interest in fountain pens and general collectible pens. I have decided to purchase a ballpoint

Why not just plunk down 60$ for an m200 FP? Ballpoints and rollerballs certainly have their place but i'd say if you want to purchase one "good" pen, make it a fountain pen. The m200 is unbeatable at your pricepoint and you could probably also pick up the pel 200 ballpoint for maybe just a little over your entire budget.

I respectfully disagree that all ballpoints are the same - even taking away cartridge differences, the weight, balance, design, materials, and retractable mechanisms can make a world of difference between a ballpoint that's a pain and one that's a pleasure.

I second the Caran d'Ache suggestion - an Ecridor with the Goliath refill is hard to match.

Wassup wid that, homes? Looks like you're WANT to feel the hurt. -ethernautrix

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
