Vintage Conway Stewart Study Session

If you are planning to visit London for the Pen Show at the start of October, the UK Writing Equipment Society are arranging a 'study session' for collectors of vintage Conway Stewart pens. The date will be October 7th (sorry, I don't have a time or a venue yet) but you will need to be a member of the Writing Equipment Society to attend. (The three issues of the Journal alone are worth the subscription and there are various categories of membership, including Overseas Members)

 

The session will probably last at least 4 hours and will be led by UK pen historian Steve Hull. There will be short presentations from several leading collectors on their specific areas of interest and time for informal discussion and questions on all vintage Conway Stewart related topics from the period 1905 to 1975. I'm sure there will be some special pens on view (all the contributors possess fantastic collections) so don't miss this 'once in a lifetime' opportunity!

Sorry, we can't do much about the UK venue, though this date was chosen specifically to give as many overseas visitors as possible the chance to attend. Many collectors arrange their family reunions, business trips etc. so that they can spend some time here around the weekend of the London Pen Show (Auction on Friday 6th, WES meeting on Saturday 7th and Pen Show on Sunday 8th). I just wanted to publicise the date as early and as widely as possible to give the maximum number of collectors the chance to plan their visit accordingly.

Thanks for giving the advance notice, Andy.

 

Following the WES Council meeting yesterday I can advise all that the venue for this meeting is most likely to be the Senate Room, University of London. The Society has close links with The Museum of Writing which has enabled use of this facility, for which we are very grateful.

 

FYI, the usual venue of Avenue House is unlikely to be used for many meetings in the future as it has become too expensive to hire.

 

More information should follow.
