Hi from Denmark

Nicola

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I am so happy to have found this brilliant forum. My Moleskine journal needed a nice pen, I thought, so I ended up buying a Lamy Safari (M nib) and a craving for many more pens. Our local pen dealer claims that Pilot or Namiki don't produce fountain pens - I only know this is NOT the case because I read a bit here on FPN. I had to order those pens overseas, but in a few days I hope to receive:

a chrome Namiki Vanishing Point (F nib)

another Lamy Al-Star (F nib)

and a burgundy Pilot Knight because I just love that color...

I haven't seen Noodler's Ink here in Denmark, so I also ordered a bottle of black and a red-black to begin with.

Hi Nicola,

Welcome to the fellowship. You'll find this place quite addicting and time consuming!

I had the good fortune to be in Copenhagen last September for a couple days, beautiful country!

Welcome to FPN, Nicola :D.

You can't go wrong with a Lamy Safari nor any of the pens that you have just ordered. My wife (Anna of The Writing Desk) has a Lamy Vista and a Pilot Capless among her daily writers and our daughter uses a Lamy Safari.

Enjoy your new purchases.

Welcome!

It is especially opportune to hear from a Dane and it isn't about irreverent cartoons!

We are the nicest group of pen nuts you could ever want to meet (or at least type at) and if you hang here you will learn lots about fountain pens.

All good wishes,

Andy

Hi Nicola, welcome to the forum, as has already been said, it's a friendly old place. I hope you like your VP when it arrives, I recently purchased one and I'm very pleased with it. It's proving to be an ideal pen for use round the office and quite a few of my colleagues have been intrigued by it.

Welcome Nicola! I too was chasing the perfect pen for my journal - until I found links to FPN... I've only been here for about a month and a half and I've gone from 0 fountain pens to 11!

You'll find the people on this forum to be extremely helpful and knowledgeable (and good at helping you spend $$ on more pens).

Thank you ALL for your welcoming greetings...It's very unusual that I don't have to explain where Denmark is - (un)fortunately that has not been necessary the past month. We all got really worried when CNN and BBC anchors knew how to pronounce the name of our Prime Minister... Chainwhip, at least I hope that we can choose some (=11?) GOOD fountain pens by staying tuned and inspired here at FPN!

Where abouts in Denmark are you from? I've only been to Jutland and most of these trips were to Billund - the plastic moulding capital of the world. The company I dealt with there had season tickets to Logoland (no, it wasn't Lego themselves)! I also once went to Ribe which is a very nice old town and in some ways similar to where we live now.

I was born in Odense (EXACTLY like Hans Christian Andersen) and grew up in Fyn which is the most beautiful island, if you ask me. Now I live in Skanderborg - 20 km from Århus, the 2nd largest town here. One FP shop only, though :( . I still haven't been to Ribe - but I heard many good things about that town. Obviously I have been to Legoland a hrm... few... times and might go again this summer - but please don't tell anyone.

Welcome aboard Nicola.

Although as an Icelander (Icelandic Canadian actually) I normally feel a kinship with other Nordic countries, the fellowship with the Danes is specially close today considering the wonderful gesture a Danish coach made yesterday in the cross country skiing, where he gave a pole to a Canadian racer who had just broken hers. The Canadians were able to place second due to that wonderful demonstration of sportsmanship.

The FPN community is a little like that - with lots of people pitching in to help others with whatever they can. Lots of advice available too from some who are in the business and sell their products and services.

Hope you enjoy the community, and I'm looking forward to your posts.

Gerry

Edit - Oooops - I see from this morning's news the helpful coach was Norwegian, and not Danish as reported yesterday. Sigh, those news guys think we all look alike :D

Well, I'm sure that if the closest person was a Dane, he would have done the same... ;)

Hello and welcome! Enjoy the place and hope to see you around. (Some really good, solid pens you've got coming.)

Nicola-

If you stay tuned too much here, you may get too "inspired".

Hi Gerry,

I really hope so...

Ray - Well, any TRUE Legoland enthusiast ought to go and see the Windsor edition, so maybe I will some day! One of the highlights, of course, includes the driving license - do they have that in England as well? I have a very embarrassing copy of the Legoland license wearing the Indian legoland-feather in Björn Borg-style. Do they still have those headbands?

Goodwhiskers, Southpaw and DrPJM1 and everyone else- thank you all for your warm welcome, I'll need all the advice I can get from here. I'm afraid this new obsession is also going to include searching for the right/write paper. At least I found an old FP while I was visiting my dad yesterday. Nothing special, a cheap Parker look-a-like, but it writes with a very fine nib that I can use in my diary - until my shipment arrives. I will fill it up with some Pelikan Brilliant Brown and see how it goes, at least it also kills this horrible waiting time <_<

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
