The Kaweco Sport really is under-appreciated as an inexpensive, decent writing, nearly bomb-proof pocket pen. I actually prefer the plastic Sport to the aluminum AL-Sport. Though the latter is nuclear rated, its threads differ, and it takes about twice as many turns to affix the cap.

I've had my Sport Classic for over a week and I am perfectly happy with this pen. I have carried it daily with an assortment of other pens and I find myself using it all the time. I purchased some PR American Blue carts and I am even enjoying the simple nature of them as well. This is an enjoyable pen that I am still scouring the earth to find with a fine point in transparent!

edbollix: I've had my two Sports for a month and I am perfectly happy with these pens. Though I wish one was a cursive italic. I carry these daily with a few others and I am always quick to grab one of the Sports. When I am working out in the field on the different jobsites, I am in and out of my car with humidity changes throughout the day. These pens are not pampered by no means and I've never had a problem. The Sport has been a very reliable workhorse of a pen.

Stevo: thanks for the great review

Jimhughes:I am with you - this site is causing a bust in the budget, but a definite increase in my daily writing & drawing pleasure :D

If you want a cursive italic nib, then check this thread and see if the silver Metallic with M cursive italic nib or the blue Ice with M cursive italic nib is still available.

Having two transparent ones and one blue one myself, the blue is more appealing for some reason. Actually, I like any colour if it's a Kaweco Sport! I wish the Sport Classic would come in more colours - like Red and Yellow and so on. Are they going to ever make any more?

I just got my little Monteverde converters and inked up my pens. I can't say how they will work in the long run, but they're good so far. Being short and small, it's hard to pull ink into them when your bottle is below a certain level. I usually ink my converters directly, but this time I ended up sticking my nib unit down in.

One thing worth noting - all of my Kawecos came as very wet writers. I had to do a little feed adjustment and now they're wildly and spectacularly extremely excellent.

I just received mine from Swisher's. The tines were slightly misaligned, but with a little tweaking, that was soon fixed. It's now a very good writer for not a lot of money at all. An excellent travel pen, I should think.

This just in from Writers Bloc. I have my transparent fine point on order. Don't forget your clip!

Hello Ed,

We finally have a few fine nib Kaweco Sport Fountain Pens in stock, including the clear pen.

http://www.shopwritersbloc.com/kaweco-spor...untain-pen.html

We have learned from the distributor that Kaweco has stopped making the Sport Fountain Pens with a fine nib, so once our stock is gone sadly we will not be able to get anymore. Just thought we would let you know.

Thanks!

Cheryl

You know, I never really had much of an attraction to these little monsters (I was more of a Japanese short/long fan), but this afternoon I picked one up at Pendemonium that was ground to a fantastic .7mm CI...for $25.

When's the last time YOU bought a pen with a custom-ground nib in it for $25?:)

Great writer, too!

Here's a question, though, for those of you who've done the eyedropper conversion. Do you find that you have trouble with heat transfer if it's in your pocket?

Awesome! I'm glad someone else tried a Pendemonium custom Sport! I've been trying to get someone to try one since I bought one from them a few months back. Definitely a hard to beat $25 pen!

I had one as an ED for a while... never had heat transfer problems. However, I almost had a worse problem- a pocket full of ink. The transparent/clear and translucent plastics used on some of the Sports is a lot less durably than the solid colors or those with a faux metalic finish. The day after I un-ED'd my Sport, cleaned the ink out and popped a cart in I managed to get a big crack in it. I had tapped an aluminum tent pole against my leg, not very hard- but it did put a crack in the barrel. :/ Just a word of warning. I know that a clear ED is way cooler than an opaque one, but you might change your mind if you manage a crack in the barrel... :P

A quick question on the ED conversion, RevAaron: how did they seat the O-ring?

The Kaweco is an ideal candidate for an O-ring seal because of the nice long smooth bit between the section and the barrel, but there is a bit of a seam on the section of mine, and the section seems a little thin to be cutting a groove in for the O-ring.

Somewhere on FPN recently I saw the Kaweco Sport mentioned, so on a whim I added one (clear, fine nib) to my Swisher Pens order. My order arrived today, and I'm amazed at this little pen. It's perfect for what it is -- an inexpensive, but good, little pocket pen. I love the way it looks. I love the size and shape. I love that it doesn't have a clip. I love that it takes standard international cartridges so I have access to a huge range of inks. (For a little portable pocket pen I want the convenience of throwing an extra cartridge or two into my bag and not dealing with converters or refilling carts.) And I really like the way it writes. Fine and smooth, and (at least with the PR Arabian Rose I have in it now) it doesn't even feather in my Moleskine.

A great find--I'm ordering a couple more.

good point (pun). I was looking for a fine point in transparent. No luck. I'll search a bit and perhaps one will turn up on ebay. Thank you for the tip (???).

hi there,

There is kind of an official kaweco site where you get nib in F M and B width. The site in unfortunately in German, but regroups all official "german" web sellers:

regroups all sellers:

http://www.ka-we-co.de/

seems to be the official web shop:

http://www.ka-we-co.de/shopkaweco/

Another shop:

(the checked ones are loking great)

Best regards,

Swisher Pens seems to have fine nibs and broad nibs, as well as medium nibs, in stock again for the the Kaweco Sport Classic series. Most of my Kaweco Sport fountain pens have medium nibs and I have one fine nib for variety; I might get a broad nib for the same reason.

Glad this thread popped back up. I love the Kaweco Sport. I must have missed this when Pendemonium had custom ground ones for $25. Its not still available anymore, is it? :bonk: :bonk:

I have not seen anything on the Pendemonium site to indicate that the cursive italic Kaweco Sport fountain pen is available anymore, but I now watch for it, just in case. I also watch this forum's Classifieds and Market Watch > For Sale: Pens, inks, etc., just in case anyone who has one opts to let it go.

anyone have tried the Kaweco broad nib? are they really wet writers?

I would like to read about anyone's experience with a broad nib Kaweco Sport, too! Anyone?

I've got the medium nibs in clear, red, green, and blue that I got from WritersBloc. Depending upon the ink you use, they actually can write very very fine. Dunno about the broad nibs.

By the way, you don't NEED an o-ring or the "special extra five dollar" version from Swisher if you want an eyedropper. You can make any of them into an eyedropper... just grease the threads. It's what I've done with mine, and they're very cute that way. ;)

Writers Bloc is awesome. They HAVE to know me by name and address by now.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
