CONID pump filler

NEW CONID PUMP FILLER :

I've just made a prototype pump filler, inspired by the Parker Vacumatic, however using a piston instead of the wear sensible rubber diaphragm.

This system will probably be offered on the CONID pens alternatively to the plunger filler, since some people may be reluctant towards the plunger filler .

Attached a picture showing the set-up.

Note the double O ring set-up & the deepened ring section between both O rings, filled with silicone grease ensuring long functionality at low friction.

The filling stroke being 12 mm, ink volume 2.2 cm3 , which is taken- in after applying only 5 pumping strokes.

Emptying the fully filled pen over the small bypass bore takes approximately 15 pumping strokes

The stainless breather tube fits on the extension stud of a standard Bock nib assembly.

A Teflon restriction tube needs to be installed in the stainless breather tube bore.

Good work Francis - truly an advancement in technology. I do have a few questions though.

1- Is the pen available for sale. What colors. How much and where. I hope there is a demonstrator in there.

2- Can Pelikan 600/800/1000 series nibs be used (is optional collars a possibility) to make that happen. I have invested a pretty penny (several scores of pretty pennies actually) in custom nibs - Only these are thirsty nibs and need a nice big ink supply. This type of pen is very helpful in that purpose.

The CONID pens will become available both in "plunger" & pump fillers versions

Aiming for mechanical & aesthetic perfection perfection, the pens are unfortunately not yet available for sale.

Technical fine tuning & profound testing is still ongoing.

By the end of the month CONID will ship a pen to - an already selected - group of 5 intensive pen users for a free3 months evaluation period.

Taking their feedback in account the pen design will then be evaluated & modified when deemed necessary.

This implies the pen is expected to become available for sale mid March 2009.

As for the available nibs, standard is an 18K/size 250 "Bock" screw-in nib assembly, in first instance only available in F, M or OM.

Conid will also make dedicated sections allowing the installation of Pelikan 800 screw-in nib assemblies, nibs to be bought & installed by the customer.

The pen will become available in several materials:

-Hard rubber : black, black/red *, black/blue* (*lined or swirled),

-Acrylic in several pattern's, :marbled gray, marbled red, marbled amber...

-Celluloid marbled blue( material similar to Tibaldi )

Note these are the "pre series" pens, since then the pens were aesthetically & technically further perfected.

I am very pleased to know they will be offering a dedicated Pel 800 series section. I hope they will also offer a demonstrator version - maybe a shaded one such as the Pilot 823.

No - I am not obsessed with Pelikan nibs - it is just that :

1- Most commonly and cheaply available.

2- Easily replaced. Easily ground. Have good standard.

3- You do not have to hound the other pen makers for thier nibs and then get them ground.

Too much time and money spent - I have mentioned I have a few choice pelikan nibs in all sizes 400, 600, 800 and 1000.

I supposed it would be fun if I could also use the 1000 series nib in another pen.

Yes, should be possible although NOT on pens with lock down fillers.

Installation would however imply one can not go back to the original filler unit, since one has to drill out the conical back-up seat for the diafhragm.

Given these facts I would surely not recommend doing so.
