That is a very interesting looking pen and I don't recall ever seeing anything like it.

I'm guessing that it was left on the dash of someone's car on a hot day?

Ouch.

if I were accustomed to tossing money around... i'd bid on it just to get a better look.

I can't imagine factory finish - but can imagine a deliberate act.

It *appears* that the imprint has not been affected. it looks dinged up and dirty but not "knobby" like the rest of the pen. If it was purely accidental, why does the cap look okay? I could imagine someone getting "creative" with a cheap pen but knowing that if they did the same with the cap, the cap might not go on afterward. Another clue to me that it was deliberately done (but how?) is that the end of the pen is still smooth and conical. As if it was held here while "worked". A random act of nature against pen would probably not have spared this area so cleanly. Finally, why is the section okay and the threads seem to be fine as well. That says, to me, that if nothing else, only the barrel was altered and it was done with the barrel separated from the section.

Gerry - think you could make this one shine, too? :D (okay, last comment on that per our agreement)

Funny psychology on the Bay... I've seen pens that fetch hundreds of dollars start off at $0.99 - yet the ones of dubious value - or for parts often have much higher starting bids set. Guess the sellers are not willing to take a chance that it won't be seen for it's parts value, and might go for a song.

Problem is that the price is a minimum and actual condition of the parts is unkown. There is a guarantee for unmet expectations though. Hmmmmm.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
