So this isn't a question regarding Sheaffer's per se, but Jim, I'm absolutely astounded by the Sheaffer pics on your website, specifically the even lighting. As someone who is starting to take pen pictures with a very crude rig, I can appreciate how nice your's are. What's your rig and procedure look like? And post some links, huh?

My current "rig" is nothing exceptional - a simple light box with some uniform color lamps. I shoot in low light and high exposure in order to eliminate hot spots and bring out detail.

 

The basics on pen photography for beginners can be found in this article, though my current set-up is a little more advanced. ;-)

hmmm... I think "low light and high exposure" may be where I'm going wrong. I guess I'll have to get my tripod out. Can you give me a sample fstop and shutter speed you shoot at?

 

Your setup looks almost exactly like mine.

 

Uniform color lamps? can you elaborate?

 

I assume you're shooting digital? Do you do any automatic white balancing in the low light?
