Greetings everyone.

I have following this Board for a while and now the time is here to join and participate.

I have been collecting Pens for about 10 years after finding a Parker 75 ciscele, a T-1, and a Black PFM that my folks had stashed away amongst my college stuff( left from my 60's flirtation with pen collecting).

I love both vintage and modern pens. I mainly collect parker 75's and Wahl, Eversharps but have a smattering of most other famous brands as well.

I get my pens from the 3 major sources- Ebay, Antiques/flea mkts. (getting much harder to find decent stuff reasonably priced) and buying in stores (new stuff).

I have run the gamut on the Bay from ripped off to great deals !!--like everybody else I guess.

Oh I also have a serious ink habit ( 50+ bottles) and my pen rule is that I Have inked almost all my pens and use enjoy them! Out of a 150+ collection I only have about 5 vintage pens mint, boxed, never inked where to do so would destroy value. I generally don't buy such pens anymore

Greetings and Best regards to all.

Welcome!

Which are your favourites in particular or do you rotate them all? Nib preferences?

"Oh I also have a serious ink habit " -Well, as long as you don't drink it.... :D

Hi Drpjm,

Currently my pocket holds a Parker 75 Godron with an 18k french med italic nib #95, a blue carbonesque Namiki vanishing point with a custom ground italic nib, and a soldier clip blue Wahl with a fine flexi goldseal nib.

as you can see I like mainly italic or flexi nibs. I definitely always have a 75 with some italic nib in rotation as well as some flexi Whal or eversharp. I just took out of rotation a black waterman ink-vue with a medium nib.

Hello and welcome. Sounds like you have quite the collection going there. It would be great, if you feel like it, to see a pic or two and to hear some more about what's in it, your favorites, etc.

Regarding the "serious ink habit," seems to go with the FP territory. I have more ink than pens at the moment.

Hope to see you around - glad you joined up! :D

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
