Woops. I swore I saw Fahrney's have this ink one day and the next they didn't. I didn't ask about it, though.

eBay vendor engeika sometimes has some in Sailor cartridges. Useful if a) you have a Sailor pen or b ) if you are willing to use a syringe to decant.

US$6 for 12 carts + US$2 for postage.

BTW, Mike. Ordering it the way I told you, the ink was at my door 8 days after I ordered.

Dave

Polite, courteous, and super fast too! Oh dear... Well, I'm off to give Yamada-San some more of the profits from my pen sale :P

Thanks, Dave!

Cheers,

Mike

MaiDo in San Francisco carries it. Not sure you'd save much though.

Yes, I had heard that. I couldn't find a web site for them. Guess I was too lazy to call them. Do they have a web site?

I recently bought a F64 Expedient notebook by Kyokuto. It is described as a stitchless notebook, and really does open flat at any page. The paper seemed nice and smooth, and I assumed that like its cousins the Apica and Campus notebooks, that it would be FP friendly.

I was wrong. It didn't feather at all, but it bled badly with everything I tried on it.

Until I tried one of my Nano ink cartridges. It is brilliant. No feathering, no bleeding, no smearing after 10 seconds.

Even though the paper is very thin, you can hardly see the writing on the other side.

This ink is a good solution for those who are looking for a very well behaved, permanent, quick drying black ink.

The 12 pack of cartridges from engeika on eBay is excellent value for money, compared to the 6 cartridges of Quink you can buy for the same money in stationery shops.

My only beware is that if the pen is not used for a couple of days it writes a little dry for a few words until fresh ink has flowed through the nib.

Well, that saves me a trip to Mai Do in SF! I live 3 hours by public transit from San Francisco so I guess this weekend I'm not going up there.

I hope Art Brown has this

I don't think they do. I looked there online. But maybe I missed it. If they do, please let me know. :)

For what it's worth, I called MaiDo in SF this morning to see if they carried the Kiwaguro ink. When I got through at around 11:40 this morning, the very polite sales associate searched around and said that they had one bottle available, that they would ship it to me in San Diego, and that they could contact me as soon as they got any more of the ink in stock. Providing I didn't hopelessly miscommunicate the exact ink I wanted - I was having lunch at school and didn't have my notes with the spelling in front of me when I called (I might have spelled Kirogawa... ) - I should be getting a bottle of this lovely stuff within the next couple of days. :cloud9:

Cheers,

Mike

PS - I was originally going to order this ink from the Ujuku shop, but laziness got the best of me and when I heard that a shop in my own state might carry this ink, I thought it was worth calling to see if the rumors were true. Hopefully the desire for instant gratification - and a few dollar savings - didn't lead me away from a completely reliable, trusted source

Wow, I have to try this ink. I must have missed this review when it was first posted. But $28 does sound like a lot though...

I've used a few Kyokuto notebooks and they've ranged from perfect to terrible. Kokuyo is a safer choice. It's not as slick as Apica but behaves as well or better with problem inks/nibs.

See this thread https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/in...showtopic=82009 for what Michael Masuyama, former nibmeister at Sailor, has to say about this ink. He gave me permission to post his email on the forum.

Thanks for pointing to this thread. Very interesting and informative. I'm impressed with Mr. Masuyama's response -- especially the time and effort and detail he devoted to it.

This is a fantastic ink!

It is fast drying. Works well on Moleskine as well as cheap 20-lb printer paper and Office Depot legal pads. And it is BLACK.

My nephew is in the far east on business and picked up two bottles for me while he was in Japan.

Wonderful stuff.

Just got this ink on Sunday and it's fabulous with cheap paper as there's no bleedthrough nor feathering. Words do indeed look clean and sharp. Wished it came in blue (my favourite colour for almost all things). Has anyone compared this ink with Noodler's bulletproof black before? On the paranoid side, would nano particles cause any health issues? Do they get dispersed or dissolved in the air? I ask because I once saw an article about nano-something or other and how it damaged the brains (I think) of trout. Yeap, I know I'm not trout but just concerned.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
