Hello to everyone. I have been addicted to FPs for quite awhile now. Since high school, I have always use fountain pens. While maybe not my first, the first real pen I remember using was a maroon Parker 51 my parents gave me as a gift. Still have the pen, but it is now in "of counsel" status.

I haven't taken a recent count, but I estimate that I may have about 50 pens ranging from the mundane to the exotic. They seem to multiply by themselves in the dark closet it which they are stored. My present emphasis is in acquiring some nice examples of Sheaffer Touchdown and Snorkel pens, and of course in using them. But before I use some of them, they must be brought back to life. So, I will need to develop some expertise in resuscitating them.

I live in the Los Angeles area (Claremont, to be exact).

It is February 16-19 at the Manhattan Beach Marriot.

Email lapenshow@cs.com to request info and registration form.

I'm planning to go but am not sure if I'll go up Friday for the weekend or just early Sunday for the big Show and Sale. The weekend would be fun but the Hotel rooms are priced like Hotel rooms :o

Hello and welcome to the FPNuthouse! I'll second that you'll fit right in with the rest of us nuts. 50 pen collection, and some exotics. Do tell! Pics would also be great. Looking forward to seeing you around the boards.

Hello Craig and welcome aboard. Your parents are so nice to have given you a Parker 51 as a gift. Most parents today, give their kids computers or a car, but rarely ever a pen. However, I do have a friend who is going to graduate from college next year, so I think I will send her a nice pen as a gift. :D

Sincerely yours,

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
