Rob,

 

I commend you on the excellent information you have offered here and will concur with the other repairer's (who are more skilled than I) comments on how nearly impossible it can be to repair one of these pens.

 

I did successfully repair one of these a little while ago and I really thought the pen would shatter before it came apart. It's owner was advised that this was a risk that he would have to take if he wanted to me to attempt the repair.

 

The one thing they have in their favour is that when they are working, they can be some pretty fine writers as their nibs have a nice feel and can even be semi flexible.

I feel a jinx coming from this thread! Not knowing that the plastic was shoddy on Taperites, I have pulled three sections and re-sacced three pens in the last couple of years. I like these pens--although I'm not trying to dispute anything said above--because of their size and balance and the great nibs. In fact, I am going home tonight and inking one!

 

I had never heard about the flood of 1955 before, Rob. All of that was really interesting. I have a morbid fascination with Waterman's final models and last years.
