Deccan pens' Tribute to Pelikan

Hi All,

During my recent visit to Hyderabad as always I made my customary visit to the Deccan Pen Stores. During discussion they showed me a lot of pens they had made over the years. One of them was an interesting tribute to Pelikan called the PELKAN[sic]. This pen is similar in size to a Pelikan 120 (?). These Ebonite pens are ED filled.

The cap and mock piston (can't unscrew) are in Black, the barrels have the mottled green and mottled brown variants. The pens are fitted with standard IPG nibs. I liked the pens very much and bought a few. I have one filled up and it writes like a champ. It holds about 1.8ml of ink. The pens are 5 inch capped and 5-3/4 inches posted.

Lovely, interesting homage to Pelikan 120 pens! This size I like the most-M400. Step down design to copy piston position is a nice touch.

Why they don't make gold nibs?

Any way thanks for sharing. Nice photos.

The Cost. It will increase by an order of magnitude. I am grateful that these pens are also available with steel nibs which can be afforded by people like me.

Hari

Hari,

I've been enjoying your pictures...what amazing variety from India! How many of these are actually available outside of India? How many are available in India?

Tim

Thanks Tim. My intention is to document the variety of pens that have been made in India. Many of the pens that I buy and photograph are of companies that no longer exist and are consequently hard to come by even here. Companies like Wality and Camlin that are still around are being sold by their respective international dealers.

Best wishes,

Hari

I got the second one from the left from Deccan in Hyderabad a couple of years ago and gifted to my younger brother. The pen looks really beautiful. He loves it.

BTW, Apart from their Advocate, I also purchased a neat little pen made out of something like amber kind of material. Really superb! Workmanship of Deccan is good.

Cheers!

You can call Deccan pen stores:04065987755 and ask them for pricing and payment options.

They don't have much online presence except for an occasionally updated Facebook page.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
