I read this great review, hoping it could somehow convince to but a Safari despite that unsightly clip, but, luckily, the grades are not high enough for me to overlook that... that... glorified paper clip

My pen box has a 2000, 2 Studios, a Logo, and 4 Safaris. They are my pens for every-day writing and general work of all kinds. Have always depended on them to get my work done. Usually filled with one of a half-dozen Noodler ink colors. Half of the Lamys have 1.1 mm Italic tips and the other half have either Medium or Bold nibs converted to Italic nibs. I can't tell the difference between my Bold conversions and my 1.1 mm nibs. If you haven't tried a Lamy, by all means give one a chance. The pens are not the usual fountain pen by far. But every one I have owned has performed flawlessly.

Excellent review!

 

I echo your standpoint on the preference of AL Star to Safari. Some people think those who prefer metal- to plastic-body pen associate that preference with the pen value, but it's the weight that concerns us. Nicely done, Iziem, and thank you.

Thank you for this neat review! Ironically, I have given a Lamy Safari as a starter fountain pen as a gift, but I have never so much as seen one in the flesh (?); someday I will get one for myself.

I have the Safari Vista, and I also own the Swift Pen (RB) in aluminum.

I am considering an Al-Star in the near future!

Great review of the Lamy's. My first real fountain pen was a Studio and it is still one of my favorite.

Excellent review for very underated pens and also,don't tell Lamy, underpriced compared to TWSBI and the like.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy.       I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
