Waterford Kilbarry Ballpoint/Capless Rollerball at Costco for $33!

I was at my local Costco the other night and over by where they keep the office supplies there was a big box of Waterford Kilbarry ballpoint/capless rollerball pens for $33. They are chrome/silver and come with a nice box, papers, a ballpoint in the pen and a capless rollerball refill in the box. I thought that sounded like a good deal, and picked one up, thinking that I'd do some price checking when I got home. I found it listed on a few sites(i.e. http://www.executiveessentials.com/itemd.a...PB%20452%20GBK) and feel like I got a pretty good deal.

Granted, I'd much rather get a smokin' deal on a fountain pen, but for a nice pen like this I couldn't pass it up. I've tested the capless rollerball refill and like it, but haven't put it into rotation yet. I figure I may just hang onto it for when I need to give somebody a classy gift that has the appearance of being expensive.

Do You know where the pen is made?

It's a very nice pen at a great price - hard to tell from pictures the actual size, though. Can you give dimensions on it?

I don't have the pen right now, it's at work and I've been off for a few days, so I don't know the dimensions offhand. But it is a pretty good sized pen. Lengthwise it appears to be pretty normal, but it is wide, very wide. As for where it's made, I will look on the papers when I get to work and see if it says.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
