2006 Stylus Pen Annual

I just bought a copy of the "Premier Collector's Issue" of the 2006 Stylus Pen Annual. It has just over 400 glossy color pages, lots of photos of pens and some text for each of the 70+ companies listed, plus a glossary and a couple of shorts articles on care, ink.

Sticker price is $24.95, minus your typical bookstore discount card. The current issue of Stylus has a full page ad for it and a tear-out order form that can be used for mail order but they want $10 for S&H.

The introduction says it is also available through pen dealers and pen stores.

Some pictures are six to a page, others are larger. In a few cases, each block shows several pens. It appears that the higher end the pen is, the more play it gets.

Each description lists the name, pen types available, materials used, colors available, and price (retail, it appears). Pelikan has 14 pages and seems to show a pic of each color instead of a representative example like some of them. It show a number of LE/SE pens, although I haven't had time to study how comprehensive it is. There are many slick ads also.

This might be a great reference tool for modern pens. It also might get drooled on a lot.

Now if they would only do the same thing for vintage pens...

Of course I would have to buy 2 of them... one to drool on and one to keep nice and clean....

I just bought mine tonight at a local Barnes and Noble. A bit on the expensive side i would say for so many ads and such. But i wanted it mainly for the company information. Knowing a bit more about the various companies was worth it to me not to mention the photos of the pens!!! Many of them i had not seen before.

So i guess it WAS worth the price!!!!And yes,it is great drool material!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
