Hi I was wondering since they say their cartridges are pressurized by 35 psi wouldn't that cause somekind of danger if someone were to...........oh let say BREAK IT!? Wouldn't the sliding float ball just shoot out including the ink?

THanks

Brad

I've never broken one, but there is relatively little actual gas under that pressure. I bet it'd make a mess..

According to Fisher's site:

The new visco-elastic, thixotropic ink, with a consistency similar to that of very thick rubber cement, flows as a result of the shearing action of the rolling ball in its socket. This shearing action liquefies the solid gel thixotropic ink, allowing the pen to write smoothly and dependably on the most surfaces and even underwater.

So I'm thinking that it's unlikely that the ink would "shoot out".

My apologies for being somewhat off-topic, but I've been waiting for an opportunity to ask this question: what's the deal with the Fisher space pen? Not technologically, but what does it feel like to write with it?

Perhaps it's just the potentially biased opinion I have about ballpoint pens- that is, they're all bad. Rollerball pens are another story, but I don't think I've ever used a ballpoint pen that didn't blow. Does it write like a ballpoint, but a bit more consistent and steady, or more like a thick rollerball?

Actually, they write pretty well. Not as smooth as a fp but better than your average bp. I ALWAYS prefer to use a fp, but a space pen works everywhere, writes on almost everything and is extremely reliable. I carry a bullet pen with me everywhere. My only complaint is that the ink will build up on the tip sometimes creating a smearable blob.

I wasn't using fps when my space pen grew legs, so I can't compare, but I rather liked mine. Was smoother than the disposable bps usually floating around and it really did write on anything, anytime. The occasional ink blob but it could be wiped off easily.

I have a black bullet pen that I carry everywhere, along with a sheet of graph paper, folded ala pocketmod. For quick jotting the pocketmod and space pen come out together and I'm good to go.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
