Wing Sung 860 "Camel"

Hey all,

So, in perusing cutepens.com, I came across this rather cute pen (no pun intended) by Wing Sung called the "Camel." I tried searching through the forums for any info or reviews of this pen, but no luck. Has anyone here heard of, seen, or used this pen, and if so, can you give me any information, opinions, etc. about it? For $10 and three cute colors, I figure I can't go wrong, but I like to do my homework before any purchase :]

Here's a picture of the pen in all three colors. It seems to have a hooded nib, which I think looks quite cool and doesn't seem to be found on too many other pens (especially in that price range, except for Hero).

Thanks in advance, my wonderful FPNers!

I have not used this pen, but from the photo it looks like a standard chinese hooded nib assembly which are reasonably good. I would like to draw your attention to the smooth metallic grip of the pen, I am not sure if this will be convienient for extended writing sessions. Heros 329, 616 etc come with hooded nibs with plastic gripping sections which are very comfortable, YMMV.

Best,

Hari

My understanding is that Wing Sung pens have not been made for a year or so. These would therefore be old stock being sold off, perhaps for less than the previous asking price.

Year + ago I got "a lot" of pens from CutePens when they had an eBay store. These were a bit shop or drawer scuffed pens, and at a reduced price for the bunch. One pen was the WS 860 Camel. Mine is kind of a light Blue. Pen writes very well! On mine the cap goes on with a kind of a snap and comes off the same with a bit of a pull. I find it a bit irritating as I often recap my pen when I pause my writing. It just requires a bit more effort... a push or a pull. Also as mentioned above, the grip is metal, and my fingers have a tendency to slide.

The pen writes quite well, but don't know I would rush out and get another.

Thanks, this is really helpful to know! Also, I'm glad to find out that your pen is blue, because the site calls it "grey" even though it looks blue to me.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
