A Montblanc 149 arrives

Recommended Posts

I'm very happy today. I brokered my first trade and received a beautiful 80's MB 149.

Because I've been using so many large Dani trios, when I opened the box, I thought "hmm this isn't so big" Then I filled it with ink and posted it and realized that it is one honkin' big pen

Now I am happy. I will be able to rest for awhile. And, it too is just a pen :P

Isn't it interesting how the large Dani pens play with your perceptions of size?

I assume this 149 is your first. Is it your first MB? What size nib did you get? After you have used the pen for a while, please post your reactions.

I have a (one only) 149; and a (one only) 146. Both have been doing quite well and I do like them very much as writers. I do not take mine out of the house, however, out of concern for their frailty.

Hi Frank,

The nib is a 14C Broad. I have one other MB and it's a near mint hunter green 32.

I think I'll leave mine at home with my Mikado and my Kara Nuri. These don't leave home either.

Kind regards,

Karin

It is interesting. When I first wrote with my Pelikan M1000, it seemed huge.

I've been writing with my Mikado recently. I hold its barrel, not its section. As time went by, I got used to its enormous size. My M1000 now feels small in comparison. I don't have any 149s though.

Hi Karin,

Congratulations on your new pen!

I did notice you were going to rest a few times before, though  <GDR>.

But I am very happy for you :D. :bunny1:

Hi Karin,

Congratulation on your MB 149!! I got mine about 2 weeks ago and have been using it everyday since. Mine is also early 80s and it is such gorgeous writer, not to mention the amazing looks and elegance.

Enjoy it !

Thanks, Bryan. I went and read the review - missed it the first time around. Excellent.

Hi Karin,

I'm a little late here...but congratulations on your MB 149! It is a classic (and classy) fountain pen model. I know sometimes your hands hurt when writing, so I hope this pen is comfortable for you to use :)

Hi Maja,

Yes, this pen is effortless to write with. I`ve been using my Mikado more too. I think it`s a simliar size at the grip. For extended periods of writing these pens are great. (Nice looking too! :D )

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
