Hello everyone

Nikolaos

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

My name is Nikolaos (or simply Nick) and i have been into fountain pens for the past year and a half. It all started after my grandfather gave me his Parker 51, and MB 146 as a gift a couple of years ago. Once i started using them, i have stopped using any other type of writing instrument

I was born in Athens, Greece, and currently reside in the Netherlands where i work as a trader for industrial electronics for the past 5 years. I have spent about 3 years in USA, and a year in UK getting my MBA so i do like going around.

My main interests apart from fountain pens (of course) are sports, reading, writing (need to pick up on that more) and a bit of travelling when i have the time.

I really enjoy The Fountain Pen Network site and looking forward to sharing my experiences with you.

Take care

Nikolaos

Hello Nick, and welcome to FPN! Very cool that you got started on FPs by your grandfather. Hope to see you around the boards!

I always knew there was something good in you NoSnow :)

Actually, Marina is also a Greek Cypriot.

You're too kind  Sadly, the family name got mangled/anglicized at Ellis Island.

Now we're up to 4.

I am not sure, but isn't "Mamoulides" (as in Jim "Penhero" M.) also Greek? ;)

Welcome to FPN, Nick! :D

Nice to have you on board. We have a few other FPNers who are from The Netherlands, including our Mad Dutchman, WimG!

I know what you mean when you say that it's hard to go back to using other writing instruments...Fountain pens are definitely less tiring to use than ballpoints or even rollerballs, I find. That, and the aesthetic aspects, too :)

Hello nikolaos and welcome to the Fountain Pen Nuthouse. I am sure that you will love it here and gain a lot of knowledge about pens, and maybe even attend a few pen shows when you have the time.

Welcome aboard and...

Happy New Year!! :D

Sincerely yours,

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
