Parker Duofold nib

I have a late Duofold with a cracked nib. I believe this is called a Geometric, it's 5" long. The nib is 1" total length, about 1/4" at th widest point (25.4mmx6.35mm).

Two questions:

(1)Is there a chance anyone out ther has a replacement nib? (medium preferred but I'm not picky)

(2) Does anyone have an opinion on the idea of grinding down a larger Parker nib and using it as a replacement?

I don't have a big budget for this pen as I understand it was a cheaper model.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance and Happy New Year.

If the pen is a user, have you considered using a modern nib?

I fitted Schmidt nibs to a couple of vintage pens that I wanted to use and they are wonderful.

Hello Tryphon,

Thanks for your reply, I'd like to stay with a Parker nib but if that's not practical, I'll use anything.

Do you access to Scmidt nibs? $$?

Your site is gold mine (I hope it's as lucrative), congratulations.

Happy New Year,

<_<

I have a few nibs. If you like I can put a good one in your pen for my cost plus postage. Even better, send the pen and a SASE and five bucks and I will make sure you have a good writer.

My site is a lot of fun, but not much of a source of income.... still, I enjoy having it and I try to add good stuff all the time. You should see the state of my kitchen when I prepare the section sealant!!!!! :)

Thank you for your kind offer. I located a 14K Welty nib, same dimensions. I'll see I can make it work but I hear the Schmidt nib are really superb writers and probably the best solution. Meanwhile I make up in enthusiasm what I lack in wisdom. Do you happen to have any Parker 51 nibs?

All the best,

d

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
