Nibs interchangeable between different pen manufacturers

Little background. I like the Think pens, they're only available in medium nibs. I called the company and they stuck to the company line of only M. Somehow, I ran across an old post here a few days ago that spoke to interchangeability (which I can't find now). Went to my local pen shop and talking to one of the guys there, told him my want for a F nib in a Think pen and that they were schmidt nibs. He grabbed a Taccia and a Conklin. Both nibs unscrewed and fit the Think and therefore each other. The retro 51 used one as well, but it didn't work (or the particular one he grabbed didn't.) Said there were several other brands that used that same set up. A paying customer came in about that time, so I told him to go help them.

If someone sees or remembers the old thread about swapping nibs between different companies, please post it.

So far, this is what I have Think = Taccia = Conklin

Do you remember which Conklin he picked up?

No, but I'm going to try to go by there on Friday. I know that he said they were all Schmidt nib units.

Doesn't Bexley use Schmidt nibs for their steel-nibbed pens? So the Simplicity and Armed Forces and ummm... the BX701 should also take those nibs?

Hi,

It might be worth visiting ISellPens.com. I believe Todd is selling the Taccia steel nib units alone, in F, M and B, for ~$15. Obviously you'd want to try verify that these specific Taccia nibs would work for the intended application.

Cheers,

Jon

You know, the answer to the question is probably more in depth that I anticipated. I didn't think and made the quick comparison in my mind to Esterbrook where the nibs fit all the pens, but it's probably more along the lines of certain pens from certain companies.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
